If you were Thad Matta, would you have put the gum back in your mouth?

Would you put it back in?

I wouldn't have, but I don't care that he invoked the 5-second rule.

Clearly a textbook example of the 5-second rule.

My guess is that he probably wasn't even thinking about it.

Thad agrees....

Besides, where's the evidence? The gum was on the floor for mere seconds, and Matta invoked the 5-second rule.
"I've got two kids at home, (daughters) Ali and Emily; they've taught me that rule plenty of times," Matta said.

Reminds me of the scene in the movie Waiting.

Dane Cook's character, a cook, drops a steak on the ground and everyone shouts "five second rule", and they start counting...he picks it up just before five seconds and says "whoa, almost had to make it the ten second rule"
