If you were head coach at Ohio State.....

NewYorkBuck

Do not read this title
what would your staff look like? One constraint is that you can only use people who could possibly be here in that capacity (eg - you can say Bo Pelini as DC, but not Bob Stoops as DC....). Also, you dont have to cite every position, but be sure to name at least the DC and OC.

Two questions to ask yourself - 1) How many of the current staff would you retain? 2) Would JT even be in your top five for OC?

Just trying to get a feel for what the consensus would be on this board.

NYB... I definently wouldn't last long as the HC but I am going to say that my "staff" would look like Hugh Heffner's back yard on any typical weekend
My staff would be the one currently in place with BigTimeBuck4 as OC instead of Bollman/Tressel...

Agreed...I would find a spot for him as well.

If you did that it wouldn't be any fun as you would blow your opponents out 87-0 every weekend. At least I would have funn looking at the real "ass shot"
Who cares about fun? We all know that there is no substitute for NCAA as a tool for becoming a great coach. :slappy:

I'd keep Hazell, Daniels, Heacock, Tucker, Fickell and Peterson. Of course Norm Chow is the current offensive genius in the world of college football but I'd hire Chuck Long. I like the way he utilizes the talents of his team. He's riding Adrian Peterson right now but threw it all over the field last year with Jason White when they didn't have a Peterson type back. They mix the run and pass nicely. Not that I hope he fails at Cincy, because I don't, but I wouldn't mind bringing coach Dantonio back to be our DC again. If he's not available I'll take any aggressive DC out there willing to use the talent we have on defense. Mike Vrabel has also mentioned wanting to coach at Ohio State once his playing days are over. There would definitely be a place for him on my staff.

Saw31 is also a strong candidate. To play Nintendo, Sega and Playstation for that many years without hitting the reset button is beyond impressive.

I'm very flattered, but I've gotten a lot of offers since posting my resume, including coaching the '97 All-Madden team. I would have to see an official offer, and consult with my family before I could comment. I will make the best decision for me and my family.

Head Coach Killernut (personable friendly figure head)

Offensive Coodinator O-Line Coach: Hugh Nall (Auburn now)/Second Choice would be Jim Lachey if he wanted it, but not OC,

Running Backs Coach/Assistant Head Coach: Tim Spencer (Chicago Bears)

Quarterbacks Coach: Mike Tomczak (Loves Ohio State, although not a great NFL QB he was able to stick around in the league for a long time) Also would be my back up OC

WR/TE Coach: Chris Carter (who could say no to him? Who could do better)

Defensive Coodinator/MLB/DT coach: Pepper Johnson (I hate to steal, but that was the best idea)

DE/OLB Coach: Luke Fickel (he is a good coach and a buckeye keep him here)

Defensive Backs coach: (Whoever did this under Cooper I would rehire)

Special Teams Coach: Andy Groom (From what I understand he really helped Nuge by keeping him loose)

Strength and Conditioning coach: Andreu Swassey (University of Miami)

Academics: Greg Belasari

I am begining to think that the defensive performance isnt a coaching issue. I caught a comment that Mussberger made quoting Snyder..... Mark said they are missing a real force/threat at DE like Will Smith was last year. As I thought about that, that terror type DE really impacts the entire defense.... It effects how aggressive you can be with your corners because the QB isnt going to have time to sit back and go through his reads.... How many times last season did we see teams abandon anything but the 3 step drop? You rarely saw much of a 5 step drop and NEVER a 7 step drop.... With the lack of a strong pass rush, it really impacts what you can do defensively.

I think many of us, including me thought the young pups would step in and there wouldnt be a big drop off.... well Replacing Smith, Anderson and Scott proved to be a lot bigger challenge than we thought...

I really like what I see out of Pitcock.... Green when healthy is a problem. We simply dont have stud play makers at either DE.... Simon is ok... but he isnt a dominating, take over a game type DE.....

I do think the defense should be much better next season.... I am very encouraged by what I saw against Penn State with our offensive line.... I think we have a fair amount of success running and throwing against Sparty.... the key will be can our defense keep this from turning into a track meet cause we have NO SHOT at winning a game that requires 30+ points of offense.
