If you could have one former Buckeye on the current team, who would it be?

This years bucks need Eddie more then anything. You could build a strong case for pace though. You can say archie was faster or whatever ud like, but it isnt like he could be proven that he could compete with the guys nowadays.

Just like everyone else. Now if O.J Simpson was on the list with his sub 10 second 100 meters i'd buy into that. That and of course the strength programs and the use of certain "liquid power" that people dont use in division one sports because they test for those u know!

Since the question was this years team, I had to go with Orlando Pace. He could even make Lydell look decent. Seriously, he really could. It was hard to pass up on Achie becasue we need a RB so bad, but I think with Pace our ok RB Ross will run for a thousand and if by some miracle JT lets Pittman play more he could be a dominant back with Pace there.

A back like Robert Smith would be an immense help to the current team. I can't call him an "all-time favorite", but he could definitely turn on the jets.

In lieu of Robert, I'd take Archie or Chic any day!

I went with Byars. Outstanding player that, if healthy his senior campaign, would have won a Heisman Trophy. He came in second to Doug Flutie in his junior season. I know Eddie and Archie were Heisman winners, but Byars at OSU was a little quicker than Eddie was when he was at OSU. Archie's size back then is a little small for today's game.

I don't understand everyones line of thinking here. You have to have a player of impact here. How can you not have Chic Harley picked. He alone brought tOSU from mediocrity to prominice by playing on both sides of the ball. The shoe was built because of the legions of fans flocking to see him play.

Only the Red Grange's and Jim Thorope's of that age can say the same. This is the only player in tOSU history that in essense was the whole team by his play on the field...

Look, Chic was a great one... but how would he do against today's players? Think perhaps the game has evolved some in the last several decades? How about physical traiing methods?

Chic would probably be a bit out of his depth under these circumstances.

This poll was for last year's team, I believe...so maybe we should start a new one for this year's squad- although it seems a little early since the incoming freshman aren't on campus yet.

I would still like to have Mike Doss. I know we are set at safety, but his play on the field is only a small part.... the news conference he had when he announced he would be back for his senior season to win a NC is the reason. He was a great leader and I think he was the main reason tOSU did win the NC. If you had been a backup looking at more playing time in the upcoming season, and one of your best defensive players passed up millions of dollars so the team could win a title, would anything else make you work as hard every day?
I think his announcement started the ball rolling and eventually they believed they wouldn't lose a game. Then when their backs were up against it (which they were, A LOT) they always came through.
