I was wrong and I apologize

What Grad21 said... your system can be unstoppable but if your defense sucks you're not going to get very far. If you can't stop a ball control, clock-killing offense, it doesn't matter how efficient yours is - you won't have enough time left on the clock to score points.

And if you're a ball control, clock eating offense, down two scores at the start of the fourth quarter it's going to take divine intervention for you to win. Just ask Woody.

Earl had a freshman quit the team and went to the Cincinnati media with an accusation that ALL kids from Cincinnati were difficult to recruit and coach, that they got homesick and that all most of them wanted to do was watch television, etc. It was one hell of a rant on the kid and on Cincinnati kids. You may have noticed that for the next few years the big recruits out of the city went to Notre Dame and Michigan, especially Michigan.

Don't give a fuck about michigan or RROD,but they need to improve to help our schedule.

Wrong! They don't need to do shit, why can't MSU, Illinois, Penn State or any other big Ten teams become better and just leave them a Mediocre garbage school? They have no effect on us, the rest of the conference could improve, and it would be all the same.

So, as long as people want to blindly look to RR "turning it around" at WVU, I'm going to point out that OSU, PSU, and, let's say, Wisconsin aren't leaving the conference to join the MAC any time soon.

I was one that wondered how Urban's spread would work against SEC defenses.

I guess I'll withold judgement on RichRod for a few years. Like everyone else said, however, if you ignore the D side of the ball you won't win period.

DickRod won 1 game his first year at Glenville State. Three years later he won 10 and never had another losing season.

His first year at WVU he went 3-8 (kinda like 3-9) the next year he won nine games. He never had another losing season at WVU and in 5 years had his team in the NC picture.

If you can recruit at WVU you can recruit at scUM.

Tate Forcier helps them a ton!

Damn you for making me think about scUM this long!

What would you like to bet on scUM winning 9 games next year?

Am I alone in doubting if Urbans offense will be so effective sans Tebow? There is something to be said for landing the perfect QB to run your style of offense the second year on the job (and having him never get hurt despite the pounding he takes). Again, except for Tebow, how many teams running these spread offenses make it through a season with their starting QB in one piece? Pat White and Dennis Dixon are about the best QB's for those systems you will find this side of TT and look at what happened with them the years they almost had their teams to the promised land.

I don't think any of these spread offenses are catching people off guard anymore, I think its just a matter of superior talent and execution now. Give me the 94 PSU or 95 OSU offensive talent again and the CFB world will be singing the praises of the power I again soon.

As far as Dick Rod is concerned the lack of emphasis for defense and what appears to be an inablity to lure multiple top shelf QB talent to run his system will bite him imo. I don't think he'll go 3-9 every year but think about how long they'll put up with 9-3 on the heels of his start.

RR will have to bring home some hardware and beat OSU more often than he loses to them in the first 5 years max, to stick I would think. He used up a whole shitload of his slack with that disaster he put forth in 2008 and 2009 isn't looking a whole lot better. Thats 2 of the 5 down, the clock still ticking and James Patrick Tressel still in charge at OSU. I would wish him good luck but I hate to lie.

Chris Leak.

With Tebow gone we adapt to personnel. Cam is a Tebow type. Brantley more of a pure passer.

One of the reasons I respect Meyer is that he does a pretty good job of adapting to talent. See the '06 squad and role that Billy Latsko played. Hell, Meyer put in the fullback spot, and we don't even have one now. But then, we don't have a fullback with his blocking and catching skills, and since we don't have a Leak type passing game, there is no need for the extra fullback to block.

If we don't have a Tebow, we'll morph into some other skill set, but you can be sure that whatever it is the goal will be to put the ball into the hands of his skill players, be they Leak or Percy, or even to install a fullback to protect a Leak.

I don't care what we do style wise, just so long as it gives us the best chance using our best athletes.

Still an ass.

Oops, wrong thread.

Nah. It is a segue. RichRod is an ass, but his offense is not bad. He will get better when he gets his guys (although he needs to be able to recruit, and if kids think that he is going to leave or be fired, he might not get the recruits he wants), but the bigger worry is will he ever be able to build a defense to compete for a Big-10 championship, and will he be able to "tweak" his spread to compete in the last half of the season when it is not so easy to make the cuts you do with the spread when the footing is bad and the ground either frozen or slush.

it'd be nice if you could say that about our system...
The only thing wrong with Ohio State's "system" is that we haven't produced a pair of NFL caliber DTs since the 2002/03 squad. Dominant DTs win football games, and that's the thing we really lacked the past two/three years. Heisman winning QBs and game breaking WR/KRs get all the ink, but the pitbulls like Tim Anderson and Kenny Peterson are what I want to see.

Ricky Jean-Francois and Derrick Harvey are the reason we've run that SEC bowl drought to 0-9. "System" had nothing to do with it.
