So here I am, driving towards Dayton on I-70 - I have to get something done at work and then I get to turn around and go back home....

I'm driving towards I-675 and it's practically a whiteout. I'm slowing down, but before it went into a whiteout, there wasn't anyone in front of me.

You can imagine my surprise when fully 50 yards in front of me, an 18 wheeler just shows up. I never really saw him and I honestly saw the top of his trailer before I saw his hazards.

So I'm doing about 50-ish, but he's doing about 20. still I had 50 yards to play with. Unfortunately, the road, which looked clear, was a sheet of ice. I locked all four of my wheels up and I hit him at about 45 MPH. There was a car behind me, but I don't know how he missed this wreck.

Thankfully my car slid STRAIGHT for the 50 yards and thankfully he had his ICC bar so I didn't go under the trailer.

Thankfully no one was hurt.

I hate snow.

I was going to say I love snow before I read your post. I'm glad to hear you are OK and in your case, snow sucks!

You know where it was at then....

my car came to a stop about 200-300 meters or so past where 4 fully merges into I-70....

In that 3 mile strip there, I saw 8 different accidents counting mine...

Even the State Troopers got nailed on one of them.....

Yeah, people in that area seem to tap their brakes a lot or stop for no reason in bad weather. It happens everywhere, but for some reason, it's worse in that stretch than other places I've been.

I made a run to Meijer early in the afternoon to get some medicine and groceries, and on the way back, a car had slid off the road on I-75 southbound between Cincinnati-Dayton Rd. & Union Centre. The entirety of the wreck was a good 20-25 yards away from the berm - the road was completely unobstructed. There were no emergency vehicles on the scene yet. Because people were curious though, the were punching the brakes to check it out. That pisses me off like you wouldn't believe. It's a much better idea to watch it on the news when you get home instead of causing a wreck and and giving the other drivers reason to look at you on the side of the road.

People don't seem to realize that moving at a steady rate in a steady direction is much safer than riding the brakes and overcorrecting. Sudden changes in your direction or the speed of the rotation of your tires from accellerating too fast or braking too much or too hard are what cause you to lose control more often than not.
