Girls Frontman Christopher Owens Leaves Band

Girls frontman and primary songwriter Christopher Owens today posted a very surprising string of Tweets announcing that he's leaving the band. He said:
Dear all, This may come as a surprise to many & has been an issue of much thought for me. My decision was not easy to make. I am leaving Girls. My reasons at this time are personal. I need to do this in order to progress. I will continue to write & record music. More will be announced soon. I thank you all for everything. Sincerely?Christopher
No word just yet on whether Girls' other half, bassist/producer JR White, will keep the band together without him. Girls have released two albums, 2011's Father, Son, Holy Ghost and 2009's Album, as well as 2010's Broken Dreams Club EP.

Courtney Love asks that Lana Del Rey "and everyone else" think about her vagina
Its horrors demand recognition

By Sean O'Neal July 30, 2012

Last week Lana Del Rey maintained her base level of Internet scorn by covering Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box" in concert, offering a rendition that brought out the anesthetized apathy lurking beneath the original's fury. Of course, one can't even say the word "Nirvana" without summoning Courtney Love to appear in a cloud of Klonopin and court summons and screech something awful at you, and so she did, tweeting at the singer (and a world so quick to forget), "You do know the song is about my Vagina right? throw down your umbilical noose so i can climb right back umm?," adding, "On top of which some of the lyrics about my vagina I contributed." Indeed, we should never ignore the horrors awaiting in Courtney Love's vagina?meat-eating orchids, magnet tar-pit traps, and other terrors so inexpressible, only Love herself could properly put them into words. And lest Lana Del Rey or anyone else forget again, Love urges, "Next time you sing it, think about my vagina will you?" And so we always will - which is unsettling, yes, but it's definitely not the first time Courtney Love's vagina has ruined Nirvana.

Seems like it's been kind of a slow second half of the year in terms of new stuff. I just don't like too much of what's been coming out.

That said, the new Grizzly Bear album is out today, and the stuff I've heard from it so far is good.

Titus Andronicus will have a new album out on Oct. 22. A.C. Newman also has a new solo album coming out sometime this fall that I'm looking forward to.

Shields by Grizzly Bear is a damn fine album. It's still early, and this could change with time, but I like it better than Veckatimest. Many of the musical ideas are more direct on Shields, the are still layers, space and texture, but it feel like less of a chamber pop album.

"Speak in Rounds" is one of the best songs I've heard all year.

New Avett Brothers album "The Carpenter" seems pretty good so far, as expected, also looking forward to new Mumford "Babel" in a few days - a cover of "The Boxer" feat. Paul Simon sounds like a win. Not sure if either still qualify as indie per se, but I don't give a darn either way. :tongue2:

In re: Muse - I don't particularly care for Madness - I certainly hope the rest of the album is a little more interesting (and uptempo)

I've heard their version with Jerry Douglas - I am curious as to whether there is another version or if it's the same one? I really like the first single I Will Wait.....picks up right where Sigh No More left off.

I was not aware a new Avett Brothers album is out. :groove2:

That's the same one, Amazon lists it as feat. Jerry Douglas & Paul Simon; I only mentioned Simon because he wrote the original. Mrs. Bay said they play it on XM The Spectrum pretty regularly, but I haven't caught it yet. I do like "I Will Wait" a lot too: these guys are doing some good work.

That's where I've heard it several times, too. They are on the Spectrum now with in-studio performances of some of the new stuff. Sounding good.
