We all know what Geiger thinks of adding another team to the Big 10 and forcing a championship game. I think its likely the Big 10 will add another team within five years. We all know the story with Notre Dame, which would be the best fit. But aside from them, who do you think would be a good addition to our conference? Keep in mind all areas of athletics are a factor.

Personally, knowing that Notre Dame is greedy, I think Missouri would be the best fit. They provide a decent football program and a shakey, but good basketball team. The Big XII North should be liquidated anyhow.

I'm locking this right now. There has been several threads on this sbjuect and pops up every couple months. Try the search function...mahalo.

(edit) I opened this back up. I'll take kn1f3party's word he searched for this subject...by the way, my vote is "none of the above", as in "no expansion".

We don't want a 12th team because that would promote an argument for a Big Ten Championship Game. And we already have one on the third Sunday of November. :)

I say kick Penn State to the curb and go back to the way it was 11-12 years ago.

The only way I see the Big 10 adding a 12th team is if the NCAA requires that all conferences have at least 12 schools and a championship game. Also in order to play in a BCS Bowl a team would have to win a conference so ND would have to join one. The only school that would make sense would be ND, but they are such big pansies that they would probably end up joining the Big Least so they would have a chance to win it. If we HAD to go to 12 and ND wasn't an option Pitt would be my second choice in order to give PSU a big rival

I vote for The Orange. Aside from Notre Dame, not a single school on that list could pass muster either academically or in home attendance/capacity to be a member of the Big-10 except for Syracuse. I think 'Cuse is the best choice too, both because of the basketball & football programs. It would open the Big-10 to a large New York state market. Hundreds of good players at Big-10 schools already come from upstate New York, and the Carrier Dome would be available as a good site to host the conference championship game.

If 'Cuse could keep all the NY/NJ talent that Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan take away, they could field a helluva good football team.

I have resigned myself to the fact that South Bend Catholic State will never join the Big-10, and if the school does ever join, it would be to the Big East anyhow.

and leave the cuse in the big east. how the hell would i root for 2 schools in the same conference?

although....then OSU would be playing in the dome every year and my 8 hour trip is reduced to a 2 hour trip. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

The championship game would probably be in Indy or maybe Detroit. The Carrier Dome is too far away from the rest of the Big 10
I don't think so. It would be available for the game to be hosted in the east, where New York and NE residents could attend. The problem for the Big-10 is that the only indoor facilities (presuming you want the CCG in an indoor facility) are already in the heart of Big-10 country. The three places I can think of right now would be the HHH Baggy Dome in Minneapolis, the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, and Ford Field in Detroit. These are all pro-football facilities, so availability in early December becomes and issue. Also, these are all 500+ miles away from the fans and Big-10 alum in New York and Pennsylvania, who would also want to attend a game. The addition of the Carrier Dome provides a place to have the CCG alternate from east to west every year for market exposure and accessibility.
