Hypothetical: Best fit for 12th Big 10 team?

Does anyone actually think ND will ever join the B10?

Look at the $, skip the fluff and go straight to the $. ND is all about it. I don't think the other conf teams would cave into consessions presented by a "none-to-eager" domer contingent.

Unless NBC dumps the ND football gig I don't think ND will ever agree to the B10.

I seriously doubt ND will ever join any conference. They may have if they did not get Ty Willingham as a coach (or another good coach). With him as their coach they will become a contender, maybe not a strong contender but they will still have a chance every game. That alone will keep NBC renewing the TV contract. You nailed it when you said they are all about the money.

The only way I see ND joining a conference is if NBC decides to try to get back into NFL coverage. They'd have to pony up some heavy cash to get it off of CBS or Fox. Maybe if the put up so much, they would be more inclined to part ways with ND. At this point, ND is all they have, so they have to keep renewing.

Notre Shame is definitely all about the cash. But hey, I'm sure
we would love to have our own network , too, so we don't have to share with all the bottom-feeders .

I say screw 'em. They had their chance at the Big 10. If they lose their NBC money and come knocking on the B10's door I say tell 'em to go to He!!. Besides I just hate the Domers. Not the kind of hate where I watch the game and root for them to lose. The kind where if I see two seconds of one of their games I shut the tv off and take a shower 'cause I feel dirty. One thing that my Dad taught me was that those self rightous, touchdown Jesus having eggheads are the monkey pox of college football.

I agree with KSB: Screw'em they had their chance. I think they have seen what has happened to Penn St. since they joined the big ten :tongue2: If the Domers joined us I can only see them competing for a B10 title every 5 or 6 years. They have a better shot at making a BCS bowl as an independent.

I agree things would have to change for them, if they were to consider comming over. I would like to have them in the conference, however I don't want a conference champ game... so if it was them comming over with the game or them not comming over without the game I'll go with the latter...

I am also opposed to a championship game. It really takes away the excitement of the season. I would rather keep it the way it is. The championship game has made the Big XII a joke. Case in point, last year. According to their championship game Colorado was the 2nd best team in their conference? BS! By making a championship game you essentially remove that regular season big games. Depending on the divisions, you may still end up with controversy. If one conference winner has two losses and the other conference has 2 one loss teams, there will be controversy. It has not solved anything.

As far as ND, If they want in I say we let them and drop a lower teir team that does not provided anything to our conference(maybe Northwestern? Yes I know they have the academics but sheesh they suck at everything). I would like to see our conference get stronger.

exactly conference champ. games can do nothing but screw some good teams (and bring some money into the conference)...

I wouldn't drop any current Big Ten school FYIW...

FWIW... I agree with the forget ND people. They'd just be a pain in the butt anyways trying to negotiate special treatment, etc. I would like to play them all the time though, just to expose them for what they really are... a "pretty good team" with a very good past.

screw the domers. their fans would be unbearable in the big10. at least the penn st fans are decent and have taken their demise in stride.
can you imagine the reaction from the domers after four or five years of getting beaten down to 5th place in the big10.

i hope the big10 never adopts another team and never goes to a championship game.

the only possible thing the big10 could do is to remove one OOC game and replace it with another conference game. leaving only one team per season left off the schedule.
