This will die down before it hits land.

It would take near-perfect to perfect conditions for this to stay a cat-5. and perfect conditions only last for short periods of time. plus the further west you go in the gulf, the cooler the water.

Im projecting a cat 2-3 at landfall.

my aunt's house in katy is something like 250 feet above sea level they said. things are not looking good as many are saying it will be a cat 4 when it hits.

the lastest advisory just said the pressure is 897 and winds at 175, this things is crazy.

Things have certainly gone from bad to worse since my last post. Looks like 50 miles inland can possibly have 100-125 MPH winds. Good news is flooding doesn't appear to be a threat to anyone outside the storm surge area or bayous.

Still going to ride it out. Hotels are booked and we don't have relatives within driving range. Local news was recommending, if you don't have a place to go and you aren't in the flood plain, home might be your best option. Going to stay in the interior of the house and hope for the best.

Hopefully, it will veer one way or the other and we an at least avoid a direct hit.

i used to live in houston for 8 years and i was just saying last month that if katrina hit houston it would be awful cause if im right houston is below sea level too, or at least very close to sea level and theres a lot more people down there too. i pray to god that the city doesnt get destroyed and that the least possible damage is done anywhere form this hurricane

Houston is above sea level but downtown has a series of tunnels and low areas that have been known to flood in much lesser storms. I have seen charts now where this thing is still a hurricane when it gets to lufkin or even further north.

Im projecting a cat 2-3 at landfall

I hope you are right, but even a cat 3 would ruin galveston and other coastal cities. Alicia was a 3 in the 80's and that caused quite a bit of damage. I think that all this talk about 4's and 5's has made people forget that even a cat 1 is still a hurricane.
