Down hear in SEC country, rumors are swirling that hings are falling apart at Ole Miss. Of course, I hear this from my Bama contacts, so it's hardly an unbiased source.

This might sound like an overly simple deduction, but Ole Miss really screwed up after they hired Freeze. The got an exceptional recruiter and good offensive coach, but they didn't surround him with the back office support that's needed to run a P5 program. One year as a HC at an NAIA school and two years as an OC for Arky State did not prepare him for the rigors of NCAA rules/regulations.

This should have been caught 6 months ago when he was enrolling in winter term classes and should have been highlighted when he enrolled in his summer term.
It's not uncommon for players at all levels to take a little lighter load during the season, but they have to make up for it in the spring and summer.

Well, to be fair, it is Mississippi.

How much surrounding with talented people can they do?

Sources: NCAA's Ole Miss investigation expands beyond Laremy Tunsil

The NCAA’s protracted investigation of Mississippi has taken a new twist within the last month – investigators have interviewed players at two or more rival Southeastern Conference schools about their recruitment by the Rebels, multiple sources told Yahoo Sports.

NCAA Enforcement representatives have visited Auburn and Mississippi State, and perhaps at least one more SEC Western Division school, this summer to speak with players who were recruited by Ole Miss. The players were granted immunity from potential NCAA sanctions in exchange for truthful accounts of their recruitment, sources said.

Those interviews indicate that the NCAA investigation has expanded beyond the spring focus on former All-American offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil.

Ole Miss officials declined comment other than to say the school is continuing to cooperate with the NCAA during the investigation. The NCAA, citing longstanding policy, declined comment as well.

Really thought the Tunsil thing was a one-off for this school. Crazy to think there could be more.

And to reinforce why it pays for schools like Ole Miss to cheat, here's the cycle.

1. Suck ass.
2. Cheat like crazy.
3. Most athletic success ever.
4. Maybe get caught (fuck you NCAA).
5. Maybe get hit with meaningful sanctions (fuck you NCAA).
6. Suck ass.

They have nothing to lose, and the prospect of the NCAA being effective is certainly worth the risk for a few years in the sunshine.
