How well will we fare against the Horns next season?

One hopes that we're doing well enough at the QB spot by then that we don't have to switch. Said it before, I'll say it again, I don't care who the QB is, I just want someone to own (in all senses of the word) the job.

Just to clear one small thing up.. TS will be able to practice, so don't worry about that. He could be ready for the Texas game.

OSU will match up much better with Texas than did Michigan. Better LB's. Vince Young is still a huge threat, but I like OSU's chances to slow him down than I did Michigans.

Texas' D won't be much better next season than it was this season, I don't think. I think Benson is gone from the Offense, their WR group is average.

Conversely, OSU will have one of the top WR corps in the nation and a D that returns 9 of 11 and a RB who is not Lydell.

We make Young throw the ball and we (if we can score) win huge. The kid can't throw the damned thing, and he is fumble prone although Michigan didn't touch him very much you might have been able to see the way the kid carrys the ball even when defenders are around. To me, Texas with Young is an option team, and I think our LBs can easily contain the option.

I disagree. VY will be our biggest challenge next year because of his speed and expect him to come back throwing the ball a little more...Also, they have had recruiting class after recruiting class so don't expect them to not have outstanding replacemenets.

Disgaree with who? I didn't say that Young won't be the biggest challenge, I simply said that he'll be less effective without Benson. Sure Texas gets talent, but Benson is a Heisman calibur back. You don't just plug in another.

Also, with their "Recruting class after recruting class" - what have they won? Up til yesterday, nothing. Don't get me wrong, Texas is a worthy foe. They just aren't as good as a lot of people think.

One clear advantage for 2006:
Tressel's grasp of clock management and general game-day coaching is so far ahead of Carr it ain't funny.
Now way JT throws away the chance for his kids to come back and win the game by holding timeouts till they are worthless.

For 2005 - I like the proportion of returning starters on tOSU vs the returning starters at Texas. Containing Vince Young will demand a lot of attention from Snyder's crew. Though Texas loses Benson I don't think one should assume the next running back for the Horns is going to be chopped liver.

I'm looking forward to 2 great games in both years. tOSU favored in The Shoe. Closer contest with a much more mature tOSU squad in 2006 in Austin - with what we see now I still project tOSU to win the away match.

I agree who ever it is won't be chopped liver. How easy was it for OSU to replace Eddie? Pepe Pearson was a lot of things, but he wasnt chopped liver either. Thats all I'm saying. (and yes, I realize Eddie actually WON the heisman whereas Benson has not. Was just the closest comparision I could come up with on such short notice)

I definately think Texas is a worthy foe. I just happen to think, like most on this board, that JT is 30 x's the coach that Mach Brown has been his whole career.

How disciplined our LBers are is going to freak Texas out. You NEVER see Hawk or Carpenter overrun plays or miss many tackles. Michigan lost because they missed tackle after tackle after tackle. I guarantee that if one of our players on defense gets a hold of of VY they WONT let him go...

Mark Snyder, IMO, became one of the best D coordinators in the nation in the second half of this season. To me, this guy is going to be amazing. JT PREACHES open field tackling and discipline staying in your zone, those are the absolute main reasons that our defense is good year after year. I think we can light Texas up, personally.
