How to revive a washed iphone

The KSB

4-4-11/11-5-11
Last night my wife was trying to get ahead of the housework and picked up my uniform and threw it in the wash while I was taking a shower. Unfortunately my iphone was still in one of the pockets. I figured it was dead and gone and I was screwed. However, I did some research and found some methods that might help. I partially dissasembled the phone (note: this voids your warrenty, but then again so does emersing it in water). Next I used a couple of cans of canned air to dry it out as much as possible then I put it in a bag of dry rice. This morning I reassembled it and plugged it into a charger and it fired right up. Below is the video I used to take it apart.

my buddy got hammered one time and dropped his blackberry off a boat dock. he dove in and got it. then, to dry it out he put it in the oven. THIS IS NOT ADVISED! he melted the crap out of it. it is a hillarious story though.

She started a load of laundry while you were in the shower? A likely story. :roll2:

I'm guessing he was still hammered when he came up with that brain storm.

I dropped an old Nokia off my dock and got it 8 hours later, let it dry and worked fine.

A couple of years ago my wife dropped her Sidekick in a running sink about 6 weeks after I bought it for her. Of course, I declined the optional insurance. She stuck it under the hand dryer immediately. I would turn on okay, but when you typed random letters showed up. I took it back to T-Mobile and said it just started doing that and they sent her a new phone with no questions asked.

On the other hand, my mom was having some problems with her phone from Verizon. She took it back to the store to have them look at it. Some how it came up (probably with some directed questioning) that she sits it in her cup holder in the car. They blamed it on a "moisture" problem and told her they wouldn't do anything. I told her that was BS and to take it to the other location and not to say shit about anything other than it's not working right. Of course, the problem stopped on its own before she took it to the other store.

Never say anything to a rep other than, "it doesn't work and I don't know why."

What if my phone is in six pieces?

All phones have moisture stickers on them. Generally speaking they are white. If they turn red, they have gotten wet. The battery will have one, normally you can see one when you take the battery out that is attached to the phone, and then there will be internal ones as well. These stickers only turn red when wet. Some stickers will have patterns that smudge, but its the same concept. It's possible to get water damage that doesn't hit the sticker(s) and no real indication of it, and the warrant exchange departments only look for physical damage and then the stickers.
