How Much I hate hospitals...

    • [begin rant]

    i've been at the hospital with my wife since yesterday (saturday) around 5pm. she had an elevated blood pressure, and her legs were slightly swollen. she has also been having bad headaches and heart palpitations. all they have done is give her Tylenol and monitor the baby and her, and they haven't told us anything! They said that a high risk dr. is coming in today to consult, but they also said they aren't worried baby since her heart beat has been fine. they are doing a 24 hr urine (she pees in a collector and the nurse has to put it in a jug for 24 hours, so we are going to be here until at least 7pm tonight. Everyone is very nice, but they just dont tell you anything, and if you ask, they just say that they will have to check on it

    If I am not mistaken, every FIRST birth is automatically a "high risk" case.. so don't be alarmed about that one... I guess you don't rcv much info because this is so common for every one there, they probably assume same for you... They go easy on drugs because of the potential impact on the baby... Rest assured, those are pros and damn good at what they do...

    You have no idea how wonderful your life is about to become... Congrats

    As easy as it is to say, you need to be as patient as possible. You are in the best place possible. They may not be saying anything because they really do not know and do not want to speculate. Before you know it you will be arguing with your daughter that she cannot wear that outfit out of the house.

    You guys continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

    NJ is right, Try not to stress out too much, you are where you need to be. As long as they have the baby on a monitor, everything will be fine. You are far enough along now that delivering the baby now would be almost no risk. Being in the hospital on the weekend just plain sucks. No docs are there, and when you are dealing with residents, they are just coached to not say anything because they don't want them to be wrong. Once the Perinatologist gets there he will lay it all out for you I am sure. Try to be patient, who knows, you may be a Dad in a day or two.

    My goodness, we have smart people around here. I agree with these ^^ guys.

    It's always frustrating to be in a situation where you do not have control. Just by being there for your wife, though, you are doing more for her than any doctor could. She's a lucky lady - from what I've observed, she has a absolutely top-notch hubby. And that's going to be one lucky baby, too, to have such a great family.

    I believe prayers really do help... you three have mine. :)

    Glad we could help you with your frustations!!! The support you guys give each other is what makes this board what it is. Pretty soon it will be all over and you and your wife will be bringing your little one home and experiece more love than you ever thought possible.

    God I love my kids!!

    thanks everyone. we were discharged today and my wife was put on bedrest and told that she will not be returning to work until after the baby is born. She is off for around 16 weeks now! She is feeling slightly better, but still has head aches, and some chest pain, but nothing as bad as it has been. We have a follow up appt tommorrow AM with the high risk dr, but it doesn't look like they are going to induce the labor yet. So our little buckeye still has a few more days (due in 16 days). My guess of the 19th is still looking good. (although i thought that tomorrow would be cool, since its 12/12 and my birthday is 11/11).

    I'll keep everyone posted, and since the hospital has free highspeed wireless, i'll have a picture posted soon after!

    BTW, Deety - Thanks, but what are you buttering me up for? Most of the time when a chick talks that nice, it costs me :biggrin:

    Glad to hear she's feeling a little better. :)

    I figured a little praise might get your wife an extra backrub... we gals have to watch out for each other. :biggrin:

    From a dad - to a future dad to be - congratulations.

    The stress that you and the wife are going through will seem miniscule when you set your eyes on your newborn.

    Having a son, or a daughter - whichever - it is one of the most pofound life-changing experiences -- truly unique.

    she had a follow up with the high risk dr. this morning, he said that everything is going well, she is back to normal and just needs the bed rest. he also did the 3d ultrasound with video, so i have that too see tonight when i get home!!! He also said that it shouldn't be much longer, so any day now!!!
