How Many Here Have Friday Off?

I work for the government... and I know everyone thinks we get every holiday including Flag Day off, but the Friday after Thanksgiving is not considered a "holiday" thus I have to take a vacation day for taking Friday off.

Boxing Day is the best. You forgot May Day in your list.
Would May Day be the day Mark May dies?

If so, I'm all for that being a national holiday.

At my company, we do get Black Friday as a paid holiday. It's the only non-holiday holiday we get, excepting the event that a paid national holiday would fall on a weekend, then we get either the Friday before or Monday following off with pay (such as July 3 if July 4 winds up being on a Saturday).

At OSU we trade Columbus Day for the day after Thanksgiving, and President's Day for the day before/after Christmas (depending on which is more likely to make a 4-day weekend), so that makes for a very nice stretch of paid time off from November-January.

I work both Thanksgiving and Friday. There is no Thanksgiving in Europe.

Yeah, but every other country has a bunch more days that we don't get. Our US offices are closed Thursday and Friday, but the European and Asian offices are open (I assume). Don't worry IS is on call if anything doesn't work. :bonk:
