fuel prices - what changes have you made?
first off, if this is a repost or in the wrong area feel free to delete/move/mock the thread starter as deemed appropriate :p.
we've had a lot discussions about the current and likely future of fuel prices. most dislike the current price of fuel. but the question is, has it actually forced you to change your habits and if so, what habits have you changed? how are the current fuel issues affecting the bp community?
for me personally:
1. i currently own a 94 ranger which i have been meaning to replace, previously it was to be with a f-150 likely v8 4x4. that plan is on hold for the time being to see how things pan out. if i absolutely had to buy something today i would likely buy a v6 possibly 2wd. secondly, i have been looking at diesel's a lot more closely because of the variety of fuels they support.
2. i saved myself over 1k last year heating with wood over home heating oil last winter just by burning wood on the weekends. i intend to expand on that this winter. by the end of next month ill have 2 years worth of fire wood split, stacked, and ready to go.
3. my dept. and i have been petitioning (aka annoying the hell out of) our bosses to let us work from home atleast once a week.
4. i won't be going on vacation this year. i normally go scuba diving in the bahamas and was planning a second trip this year somewhere along the coast. but the ~2500 - 3k i had intended to spend on those trips i feel could be better suited being put aside waiting to see what "wonderous" new fuel system we'll be dealing with next.
5. ive been looking into geothermal heat as well as the various biodiesel fuel applications. the minute i feel any of them are more economically feasible im going to jump all over it.
6. insulating my floors and adding to the rest of insulation in my house is my first major job this summer. it was on the list of things to do, but it wasn't at the top. it is now.
what about you? have you made no changes and have no intentions to do so? have you made changes to your life because of fuel prices and or intend to in the next year?
