How does work make you feel today?

Really struggling to maintain my high sense of urgency today. I have so many things that I am waiting on from others and I hate not being able to respond to my clients relatively quickly. It doesn't help that my boss is being an absolute ass and saying one thing and then doing another. When I am expecting one thing and waiting for him to respond and then he comes back with a totally different strategy and involvement level, I just want to well you know....

been at our Texas office since Sunday night.
Jesus this state loves itself. it's like they think I should feel blessed just for having set foot on this sacred soil.

ready to get back home to reality.
in Louisiana we know we're crooked, uneducated, drunk, and borderline nut jobs.
but we're ok with our chemical imbalance.

on a side note, coming here was an eye opening experience.
I'm about a half hour east of Houston. always just blew through this area on interstate and never stopped.
HOLY SHIT this is the Mecca of oil and gas in this country. I knew there was a lot more plants and refineries here than in south Louisiana, but didn't realize just how much more until I saw it. It's unreal.

Wife gets called for an interview last week for today. The job is with the university she graduated from. Takes the day off and gets to campus about an hour early. They call her to tell her that they want to change the interview to a phone interview because someone can't make it. She says, I am already her and can we go ahead and meet and conference the other person in. Person hims and haws and says well I don't think I can find a room to meet in so let's just do the phone interview. Really, no meeting room scheduled when it was supposed to be on site to begin with?

I told her to tell them to shove it...if that is how you treat an alumnus interviewing for a position, how are you going to be treated as employee....

This is why companies can't find good employees...

A certain group within the organization I have the displeasure of working for these days keep sending their absolute worst contractors to the off-shifts. So when they screw something up, we get to spend 4 or 5 hours each morning figuring out what the hell they did and trying to reverse it before day shift gets in (and subsequently shit hits the fan)...do they fire anyone? Nope. Do they insist that the contractor hiring these schlubs actually have standards? Nope. They wonder why we didn't get it fixed faster.

I can't wait until I find a job outside of the government that will pay the bills.

So, within one week 2 projects that I have been chasing have been delayed. The first one realized that they had to do a financial check on the companies because the dollar award is so high and have delayed the announcement of the selected company until the audits are complete. This will be about a 2-3 week deal by their Risk Department. Seriously, is this your first rodeo....

The second one has decided that they want to reissue the RFP and have the project rebid. While the scope of the project will increase, which is nice, this is ridiculous, due to the amount of time, effort, and money it takes to prepare a proposal, not to mention, the time, effort, and money to do a presentation. They could have hired and then expanded the scope of services under that contract....

Just killing me trying to get on the board this year.....:mad2:

Best move I made about 10 years ago was getting out of gov't work and into the private sector. Hope you can do the same soon.

Yeah...you know I do like what I do (well did, before I went into leadership) - the technical stuff we do is fun and can be very challenging. It's just that they've cut back Columbus and pumped up the Montgomery site, and unfortunately the talent pool down there isn't the deepest.

We did find a diamond in the rough - dude showed up with a CCNP and a JCNIA - but he's a little prickly when it comes to learning the stupid way our network is laid out. He doesn't quite understand the way we do things (which I wholeheartedly agree with, even if I can't change it), but that's his "Welcome to the government" moment.

There's a job with a local company that needs someone with CISCO NEXUS and F5 experience. Since that's the bulk of our existence I'm toying with the idea of giving it a shot.
