How does work make you feel today?

Anyone have any good advice on firing someone? I'm not looking forward to this conversation.
I've been permanently laid off twice in my life. The first time, the boss was direct and told me honestly and quickly. They needed to make room for a few family members that were unemployed. It was a family business. Tho I was upset, I appreciated her being honest and succinct.
The second time, I was laid off for the winter. Come spring, I saw a company truck roll past my house three days in a row. I called and asked if we were back to work. Boss told me yeah, come in monday. Went into work, he gave me three days, then said he'd call when it picked up. He never called and after three calls of my own went unreturned, I got the hint.

Be direct. Be succinct. Do it quickly. It makes a big difference to the person being fired.

Performance -- it just isn't working out. Nice person, well-intentioned -- just socially....odd? Not particularly efficient and he new it was a temporary thing to begin with -- just not THIS temporary.

My only advice is to do it the way you'd want it to happen to you - quick and to the point. You appreciate them for their time and effort, unfortunately it wasn't an ideal fit for the company and today will be the last day they're needed (not sure if you have someone who shuttles them to the exit after or not or if they stay to clean their desk out themselves.)

Yeah, I'm going to have last paycheck + two weeks of additional pay ready when we have the talk. I hate this stuff. I'm definitely going to be there when the desk is cleaned out.

The worst part is that he isn't going to even have a clue that its coming. Just clueless.

I am not looking forward to this.

Thanks, guys.

It is not fun to do that is for sure. Most of the time, I have had to do it, it has been for performance and they have always been aware that they were on the fence. Quick and to the point. Give them a few minutes but not to long to dwell on what has happened. Do you have an HR person that will be there with you or is it just you?

No HR person, just me. That was not enjoyable.

New schedule. I work Wednesday and Thursday. Off Friday. Work Saturday and Sunday. The I'm off Monday and Tuesday. I'm liking it so far. Weekends are a breeze, and I really only work two days. Weekends are Netflix and study days.

I was reading an article on LinkedIN on whether or not to tell your boss you are thinking of quitting and came across this interesting little nugget....

According to a press release, social media-based recruitment agency staffbay.com surveyed 15,000 jobseekers and found that 87.2 percent of respondents said they wanted to leave their current job sometime in 2014. When asked why, more than half -- 52.6 percent -- said it was because they did not trust their boss. - See more at: http://www.citytowninfo.com/career-...because-of-boss-14010201#sthash.Uze3raEm.dpuf
