How do you define "Intelligence"?

Just an off the cuff definition - intelligence to me is the ability to make connections.

One thing for me is the ability for someone to actually hold a convo. If you are having a discussion about something based on opinions to not be able to listen to the other persons side and then process and counteract or give up when you are obviously wrong shows how dumb some people are.

I have a guy that I work with that is like this, no matter what you tell him or what ever facts you show him, he will just answer, nope thats not right, without telling you why that is the case in his opinion.

I work with a lady who, no matter what happens, struggles to accept change and deems any new process or duties as "doing it wrong". She's not dumb, just so set in her ways that everything not done the same way it was in 1975 is just blasphemy in her book.

You work with my son-in-loser? Poor guy....if I were you, I'd quit now.

Two classes here.

  1. Overall smart. These are people that tend to be defined similar to the way NYB did. Quick, able to put all the pieces together and able to communicate these outcomes to motivate others.
  2. Singularly smart - these are the people that are highly smart in one or more areas but can be clueless in others. Example the guy in "A Beautiful Mind" or "Rainman". Both highly intellegent in certain areas, but lost when it comes to others.
