Or you could get satellite which is cheaper.

I switched from cable a few years ago and every year I check the rates for the same package. Satellite has always been a better product for the cost.

I've been really thinking about that. I now have a Built-In HDTV and I hear that satellite has way more HD stations than cable. How is the reception for you? Does it "go out" in bad weather?

It's another ploy by the Disney company to squeeze more money out of us. We will complain to our local cable companies, they will add ESPNU, our bills will increase, and Disney, a multi-billion dollar company, makes more money.

...which is exactly why it ticks me off that Ohio State websites are telling people to call their cable companies and demand ESPNU. I don't understand why so few people can see that ESPN, not the cable companies, are the real enemy here.

Ohio State and the Big Ten are just as guilty for allowing this.

I lose it rarely in bad weather. DirectTV has two satellites and DishNetwork has one. We have had Dish for three months and have lost the signal two or three times. We had DirecTV at our old house for three years and lost it a dozen times maybe. In either case the lost signal was only for a few minutes.

JCOSU86 - I also run of satellite, the reception is actually at least as reliable as cable. This actually makes sense, as most of the cable programming is transmitted to the local distribution nodes by .... satellite. Thus, the same weather events which can take down cable may temporarily interrupt my satellite feed. (Lightning, thunderstorms, extreme solar flares etc). Where the more comes in is with the recovery time. When cable would go down in bad weather, if there was a physical line defect it would be a long time before the picture was recovered. With satellite only the weather event provides an issue, recovery time might be as little as a half-hour, even during the weather event.

One of the things with Dish vs Cable, we have a HD TV and if there is a channel that offers HD, great! BUT if there are two different possibilities on that channel, then you don't get to choose, you get the HD offering... Sweet aye? Wellllll.... consider this, Channel W offers the Buckeyes, in analog, and WOMENS TENNIS, in HD.... Which one do you think you get????? I missed the first game of the year last year because WOMEN'S TENNIS was being broadcast in HD. I was not a happy person!

Having had both dish and cable, we lost our signal way more often with the dish than we do with cable.....

Right now I get cable on 4 tv's, Internet, and Tivo for almost exactly $100 a month. I doubt that I could get it that cheep with a dish. Noted I don't have HD or even digital cable thanks to the Tivo, and getting DSL would require a phone line, which we don't have.
