Hollywood, out of ideas

Quote:
After a recent resurgence with sequels "Rocky Balboa" and the upcoming "Rambo," Sylvester Stallone is taking aim at an MGM remake of the 1974 Charles Bronson starrer "Death Wish."

Stallone is in talks to direct and star as an ordinary man who goes vigilante after his wife and daughter are attacked. Set to write the script are Michael Ferris and John Brancato, whose credits include "Terminator 3" and "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins."

"Death Wish" fits squarely into MGM's long-term strategy of assembling tentpoles based on a 4,100-title library that encompasses post-1985 MGM fare plus UA, Orion, Polygram, Samuel Goldwyn and Cannon titles.

"We are looking at our library to determine which potential franchise properties make the most sense for us to produce, and 'Death Wish' was clearly one of that jumped out," said MGM chief operating officer Rick Sands. "We hope to get a deal done with Sylvester Stallone to direct and star, and like the 'Rocky' and 'Rambo' films, we see this as another potential franchise for him."

Okay, I just saw a commercial for a pile of shit named "Meet the Spartans". Apparently another one of those spoof movies. Why in the fucking hell do people watch these? Stop watching them so they'll stop making this horseshit! :smash:

It looks like the worst one yet of all the spoof movies which is really hard to fathom. It doesn't get much worse than Date Movie or Epic Movie.

TV is democracy in action. I watched as CNN did Brittany Spears 24/7 last week, on the same day that the Iowa caucus results were released. Look at the "blockbuster" TV shows of the last few years, Jerry Springer/Morie Povitch, mindless reality shows, and Hollywood in lieu of hard news. It's a first class case of giving the people what they want.

Same with the movies. Hollywood puts out films that teen-agers will watch three or four times in a three week release, so you get explosions, sexual tension, rebellion and fear... One out of four ain't bad.

Spoof movies are coming out at a quarterly rate. I'd like to meet the person whose going out and spending hard earned money on duckets to this garbage

They seem to be Hollywood's version of the reality show. Very little thought needs to go into them so they just pump them out like Paris Hilton pumps out pus.

?Alvin & the Chipmunks? is about to cross the $200 million box-office mark, could become the most successful family film released in 2007, and is already the highest-grossing talking animal/live-action cartoon adaptation ever. All this can only mean one thing: Chipettes."

"The Chipettes are a group of female chipmunks named Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor, who were first introduced to audiences in the early Eighties. Now, as the team behind ?Alvin? begin planning the sequel, their thoughts keep returning to the little girlfriends."

Universal rolls dice with Hasbro

Universal Pictures has announced a six-year partnership with Hasbro to produce at least four feature films based on branded properties. The properties include ?Monopoly,? ?Candy Land,? ?Clue,? ?Ouija,? ?Battleship,? ?Magic, The Gathering? and ?Stretch Armstrong.?

The deal comes after the successful screen transformation of the Hasbro property ?Transformers,? which DreamWorks and Paramount turned into a Michael Bay-directed global hit, and which has a sequel scheduled to begin production this year.

Hasbro?s ?G.I. Joe? will be a 2009 tentpole for Paramount Pictures, with director Stephen Sommers just beginning production on the film. Lorenzo di Bonaventura has shepherded both properties as producer.

Universal now has exclusive access to Hasbro properties, excluding ?Transformers? and ?G.I. Joe.?

Monopoly the movie?!

Boy that sure sounds compelling.

BTW regarding the "G.I. Joe" film...I'd strongly suggest passing on it.

Due to concerns with the worldwide market, Joe will now be an international team based in Belgium

Fuck that noise.
