if you can convince me that our talent level on offense was in the bottom 10% of the country the last 2 years (make that 3) than i'll buy into your argument that he's played to our strengths
i did note that it was an exaggeration.MistriBuck said:i'll skip past most of what you said, including the hilarious statement that Holmes alone trumps our WR corp in 02/03 (would you like to bet if Holmes is drafted before Michael Jenkins?)...............and i'll simply repeat myself:
dude give it a rest, you are ridiculous, reality is reality.........we had 3 linemen drafted from the 02/03 teams, including 2 Rookie starters, a QB who although not spectacular was good enough to start for an NFL team due to injuries and pull out a few wins as a Rookie, 2 WR's that ended up as 1st round draft picks (Jenkins/Gamble), a TE that was a 3rd Rd. draft pick, Holmes who will be a 2nd/3rd rounder...........Ross was a dissapointment, but was effective when given space to operate and didn't have 4 LB's in his face, do you think he was worse than Derek Combs or Pepe Pearson? they seemed to get the job done......but you're right that is definitely less talent than Bowling Green/Cincinatti/SDSU/Northwestern/MSU/SJSU/Texas Tech, etc., etc.was our talent level on offense less than or equal to every team we played in those seasons? without MoC clearly and undeniably, yes!
tressel is a great coach and he gets the most out of his talent.MistriBuck said:all i'm asking is to face reality, Tressel is a great coach who knows how to win, knows how to manage the game and keep his players focused, but an offensive mastermind he isn't, that's just reality.............i hope that he continues to evolve his offensive thinking along with our offensive staff as a whole with this new offense and influx of speed that we have now..............but i'll remain skeptical until i see it
if our linemen were so good why were there 4lb's in ross' face? gamble was picked as a cb not a wr. i have noted that hartstock was a stud on more than one occasion. how many points did the bears offense score in those 2 wins again?Ross was a dissapointment, but was effective when given space to operate and didn't have 4 LB's in his face

MililaniBuckeye said:Oh, the stupidity. Ask Kent State (51 points), San Jose State (50 points), and Indiana (45 points)Now I understand.
Listen...Tressel opens it up against the weak schools and reigns things in for the tougher competition. When he perceives our offense as more talented than the opposing defense, he unleashes overwhelming force. When we face a defense that is more talented than our offense, he plays the field position game.
I wonder what would happen if our defense was considered our "liability". Would we play more prevent-type, bend-but-don't break schemes? I hope we don't have to answer this one in the near term.

I agree with what you are saying about Tressel that he does not allow his offensive players the ability to make plays and seems to hold onto the ball a little too tightly, although I will take a win over huge numbers any day of the week but please DONT consider Gamble as a WR first round draft pick when it was KNOWN what position he was drafted for and WHY he was NOT the starter on offense his junior year. Drew Carter was MUCH better than Gamble at WR. Gamble was an excellent corner which is where he is playing in the NFL today.MistriBuck said:, 2 WR's that ended up as 1st round draft picks (Jenkins/Gamble),

it's called scheme, and the inability to counter the defenseif our linemen were so good why were there 4lb's in ross' face?
true, but he was still a FIRST ROUND TALENT, with the speed, agility, and gamebreaking ability of a first round pick.............remember the reverse against (Indiana?), that was a thing of beauty, i believe a 43 yd. TD run...........how many other times did we see that during the year? any???...........he had great athletic ability, and average hands, but was still rarely utilized, you get a guy like that in space and let him make plays, or let him burn the defense deep ala Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.......his abilities on offense were not capitalized onbut please DONT consider Gamble as a WR first round draft pick when it was KNOWN what position he was drafted for and WHY he was NOT the starter on offense his junior year.
