Help with DVD Recorders

matz2

Sheeeeeeeeeeeit!
I need some help fellas. I know that a few of you guys are pretty familiar with these things. Anyways, I finally got a DVD recorder (Sony RDR-GX300) and I am having trouble setting the f*#king thing up. Is there a way for the DVD recorder to access my cable box's hard drive so I can burn some of the saved shows on my DVR? I am pretty sure that I have it hooked up correctly, but I am having zero luck here. Thanks in advance!!

Sure you can, just run video from your cable box, out to your dvd recorder. Then play whatever is saved on the HD, and record with the dvd recorder. Basically the same thing as copying stuff from VHS over to DVD.

My DVD Burner has hard drive built in but my the first one I had didn't. BMax is right... it should work just like a VCR. My burner had to be channel EXT 1 to pick up the signal from the DVDR. Check to see if you have it on the right external channel.

On a related note does anyone know of a good video capture card for a computer? I have one but the quality sucks.

I also have a Govideo DVD burner that acts like a VCR, but it records DVDs in a weird format that won't play on any other DVD player. I've tried ripping the DVD's to my computer as video files then burning them back on DVD's, but I lose too much of the already suspect quality. I would like to know what the people who rip DVD's into high quality divx avi files use to do that if anyone knows.

Need help on what to buy for a good DVD recorder? I want to buy one before football season begins but only started researching all the options. I’m hoping to keep it below $400 but want to make sure it has the best options. I want a HD and be able to record on DVD-RAM and time slip play but not sure what else to look for. Any suggestions on other options and models would be appreciated. I can’t wait for the season and a chance to build a library of all the games, especially a win over <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Texas & scum.

metalbuck...

this is the DVDR/HD that I have. I've had no problems with it so far. I wish the editing on the machine was more involved but it is more that capable of doing the basics like taking out comercials and making small clips. Amazon has it for 399.00, I paid 575.00 for it last year. I did get the extended warrenty with it. I had a set top DVD burner that was a Phillips before that and it crapped out on me after 1 year... right after the warrenty expired, go figure!

Thanks for all of the information guys. I will probably ask for some more help on the editing (i.e. taking out the commercials). The directions aren't worth a shit...

It is more of a pain in the ass, but I prefer having a vid capture card in my computer, capturing the show/movie/game, editing it with the computer, and using the burner in the computer. Course the capture process is a bit harder, but editing is a dream.
