Im sorry if this is in the wrong forum. It seemed like the best place to post this.

I was born and raised in Detroit, MI but have always been a OSU fan much to the hatred of those who surround me. I have lived in Maine for years and have always dreamed of attending a game. I have decided to attend in Sept for the Miami or Ohio game.

I have never been to columbus and would really appreciate some help planning my trip. From tickets, to lodging, and everything in between. I know OSU fans are the best in the country, so I thought that I would give this a shot.

Let me help you plan.... 8 am go to liquor store and buy crown airline bottles (I usually go to sharon square in Worthington its on the bus line) tape them to your stomach you will use these later... (helps to shave area of taping) Go to Varsity club and drink beer till 1.5 hours before kick off, taking in the ambiance of years of beer and victory. 1.5 hours before kick off start walking toward the stadium (stop at St Johns for the Skull session.... When you get to the game pee in a trough style urinal in the bathroom of your choice. Then buy a coke at any stand and take a seat, smell the air, watch the band, and dump the first bottle of Crown in your coke cup. After the game high five the people around you then head to Out r In to watch more games and finish the day off...

thats what I would do anyway.... ill be the guy in a Tedd Ginn jersey (or Jermelle Hines)

Whatever you end up doing on game day, make sure you're at your seats before The Best Damn Band in the Land makes the ramp entrance. Script Ohio is something that can only be truly experienced in person, and it is amazing.

Look at the OSU athletic dept's website for a rundown of game day traditions and points of interest (skull session, Buckeye Grove, etc). You won't have enough time for all of it, but be sure to take a sec to enjoy the rotunda on the north end of Ohio Stadium. And you can have a great time just hanging out with other Buckeye fans at the nearby bars and tailgating sections.

You should get on finding tickets and accommodations ASAP. I don't have any good advice in that regard, except try the OSU ticket office, and be very cautious if you try ebay or craigslist. That's a big game, and the demand for everything will be very high. Good luck with your trip, and I hope you have a great time!

I would look at staying up in Worthington at crosswoods. They have multiple hotels and the COTA bus runs down to the game (buckeye express) that way you dont have to worry about driving in traffic or buzzed.... maybe its just me but I make my plans around drinking:wink2:

How is the Days Inn Columbus fairgrounds? I found a great rate and it looks like it is 2.3 miles from the stadium.

Also, the advice is good. Gameday will definately revolve around consuming drinks, and I do not drink and drive.

There are lots of motels along Olentangy River Road that are close to the stadium, just off 315, and preferable to the shady area around the fairgrounds. Among them, there's University Plaza on Olentangy.

Our Columbus Ohio Hotel is Close to the OSU Campus

There's a Red Roof Inn on Ackerman Road just off Olentangy--not 5-star (or 4-), but inexpensive and accessable. It's located at a small shoping center.

There's also a Fairfield Inn on the other side of that shopping center with a nice sports-bar type restaurant called Damon's

Damon's Grill Their onion loaf is a winner.

Farther south down Olentangy near King Avenue, there's the Lennox Shopping Center. There are motels close to it also, and lots of restaurants.

You're definitely better off in the Olentangy River Road area (or Worthington, as suggested, but it may be pricier.)

Good choice as there is bus service from the Fairgrounds to the Stadium and back. If you go to the Miami game look up BB73. He's annoying, but he has an unerring sense for where to find free beer.

Then I read the other reviews. Yep it's a pretty seedy area, probably a few more bucks to stay in other areas.

Where you at in Maine? My daughter was born in Fairfield 40 years ago today.

I can second localyokel on Olentangy. I live in Connecticut and try to get to one game each year. This year we're going to the Purdue game. We already have our room booked at the Varsity Inn North. It's about 1.5 miles from the stadium, but it's not a bad walk. There are plenty of restaurants up around the hotel (other hotels as well.) There's a Bob Evans right next to the place, love me some Bob Evans for breakfast!

As you walk down Olentangy, be sure to stop in the lobby of the WHAC (Woody Hayes Athletic Center). The lobby is typically open on game days and all of the major trophies, championship rings and Heisman trophies are displayed there. You must go and pay homage. :)

Leave yourself enough time to hit the Skull Session at St. Johns. I believe it starts about 1.5 hours before kickoff, but double check. Try to get there early, especially for your first time.

You'll want to duck out of the skull session before it ends though, so you can get to your seat in time for the band entrance and script Ohio.

If you go to the Purdue game, I'll be the white guy with the "33" home jersey. You can't miss me. Oh, and I have a full beard, of course.
