What were you eating?
The first was prime rib on Christmas Day and one piece had a string of fat connecting it to another piece and it was like a wine cork in my wind pipe, not a molecule of air was getting by.

My brother in-law did the heimlich while my wife did the finger swipe of my mouth, taught in first aid, and the finger swipe ultimately got it out. That one was the scariest as it was probably nearly minute before I could breathe.

Last night was a dinner roll, I immediately put hands to neck and got on my knees for the heimlich since I am a foot taller than my wife and on your knees is easier for people shorter than you and she again did the finger swipe.

We are ordering "Life Vacs" as a result.

I had to google “Life Vacs”, I hadn’t heard of those, but if you ever need one that’s money well spent.

Especially when traveling alone. I always wonder about those who drive for a living and they get an obstructed airway like I did.

I will have one in my car from now on but will hopefully never need it. :worry:

So, will that be the only portable suction device you travel with?

My grandfather died at a restaurant choking on a shrimp back in 84.

At a wedding in Italy this past summer and had the father of the groom (long term friend) who started choking and had his other son who is in Med school perform the heimlich. I was watching the whole thing unfold in front of me (like in slow motion) and was the one yelling for someone to help Jerry. Scary shit ....

The closest I've ever been, besides people starting to choke but able to cough the food out on their own, is when my son was tiny and just learning to eat real food. He took a bite that was too big and I did the finger sweep in the back of his mouth. No Heimlich, though. I mean, other than first aid training and pretending someone is choking.

But yeah - I can imagine that's scary. I've had congestion so bad that I could barely breathe, and that's bad enough. I've also had food stuck in a spot that must be below the wind pipe, because I could breathe fine - I could just feel the clog and thought I probably shouldn't eat any more until it gets cleared.

When i was a kid. We were in Myrtle Beach for vacation at some fuckin calabash or another and I choked on a clam. Memory isn't super clear but I do remember my parents losing their shit. Some dude on the other side of the restaurant saved my life. Couldn’t have been 5 or 6. Crazy because the maneuver had only been around for a decade at that point
