My swing feels like an unfolding lawn chair.
I have a question about heating bills. I live in an 800 sq ft apartment with higher than average ceilings. We have electric heat and our bill this month was $480. We just moved in so I'm not sure what to expect. Does this sound high to you guys? It sounds rediculous to me. What is your heating bill?

$480 to heat an 800 sq foot apartment sounds ridiculous.

I'd ask the Electric Company if there was an error. You say you just moved in. Did they fail to correctly close the prior account on the apartment?

That is rough...

I wish I could find the story I heard the other day on FoxNews about a guy in GA paying the elecrtic comp. down there for his $562 bill in all pennies...

It was going cost him $50 in postage, but he did it anyway...

One more bit of info. We run it at 67 degrees. We actually moved in in December, but out heater was broken. Its fixed now, so this is the first month our bill should accurately reflect our usage. Our bill last month was $450.

out of curiosity, what do you guys pay for heat/elec, and what do you live in (apt, house, etc)?

My bill in the winter for electric (heat & power) is about 80-90, but a lot of our heat radiates from the below apartment.

Looking at my bill we were charged for 3300 Kwh. I have nothing to compare that to. I have no clue if that is high or not. I do know that we are probably paying more per Kwh than most of the country though. (I actually live across the river in Jersey City. Yes, I'm part of the bridge and tunnel crowd:biggrin: )

I live in the metro as well in a similar sized apt. My last month bill was $47. Albeit I have gas instead of electric, but it should not be that much difference. Also, I turn it down to 60 during the day when Im at work. Still, something dont sound right.

its a manhattan elitist thing. if you don't live on the island of manhattan you aren't as cool as those who do. or so they say!

anyways, what should i do?
seriously...I would talk to the electric comp. like sandk said about the proir tenants, if thats not the issue talk to them about a payment plan.....electric companies are very wealthy and they are very easy to negotiate with.....

Edit:

They will make payment arrangements w/ your current bill while still charging you though......
