Growing up I lived in a house approximately 5500 sq ft... and we had some crazy habits.. windows open in the summer for fresh air with the AC cranked.. I was just on the phone with my dad and out of the blue I asked him what a typical electric bill would run in the house.. answer, 300...

1 and 1 isn't equaling 2 in NYC...

Build a campfire in your living room, make sure you have some source for ventilation so you don't die. When the fire department comes, show them your bill. When the reporters come, show them the bill and make up a sad story about a one-legged dog or something. Make sure you slide your address in there, people will send money....use it to pay your bill....problem solved.

probably looking at about $1000 for everything needed. add another $20 if you don't have a set of jumper cables.

This rig cost well over a grand, but works for me. Gotta watch those blades, though.

You could replace your thermostats(if old style) with new digital thermostats. I did that and have much better control of my heating system.
You can get them from Home Despot and Lowe's. Cost is small. $40

I have a question about heating bills. I live in an 800 sq ft apartment with higher than average ceilings. We have electric heat and our bill this month was $480. We just moved in so I'm not sure what to expect. Does this sound high to you guys? It sounds rediculous to me. What is your heating bill?

Something's definitely not right. I got about 2,000 sqft plus a garage apt. Major draws are two HVAC systems, two fridges, one freezer, a hot tub, and an electric dryer. Most we pay in the middle of summer is $350. And I keep the house cold enough to hang meat all summer long. In Georgia.

The only caveat is that we had all the windows replaced with 3-pane, kryptonite windows. Frikkin house is a thermos bottle.
