Bought a HDTV-ready big screen...RCA 52"

Now what do I need to get HDTV?

Recommendations?

Speak slowly...I'm technologically illiterate...

If you already subscribe to a cable service (I don't know about how Dish works, since I'm hardwired) you have to call em up, tell em you want a HD box and then go get it. If your cable co. is like Time Warner here, they should give you the box for free. There should also be some "free" HD channels.. With Time Warner, I get NBC, CBS, TNT, WOSU, DiscoverHD and a couple that I'm forgetting for free. If I want ESPN, etc. I'd (as would you) have to buy a package. Oh.. also... You can't get HD on your regular NBC channel... here in Cbus I tune to Channel 4 for "Regular" NBC and 714 for HD NBC.

If you're looking for over the air HD, you need to buy some kind of antenna, and I'm not sure what else... probably nothing else, since you say it's HD ready. But, you will need the antenna. I don't own one, but I hear it looks like a big magnetic bar. (I've also heard it only works with mixed results, but I've never tried it myself.)

My dad just bought a new high def TV and the antenae that came with the TV gets the over the air HD channels, you just have to scan for them (not sure how he did that though). It seems to work perfectly fine to me.

Yup, I have Time Warner Digital...had to get the box to subscribe to Gameplan. Damn Regional coverage.

So now I just have to contact TWC and get a different box?
Should be sufficient... and there shouldn't be an additional charge (I had to go to the office myself to pick it up, but it was free... they should give you the appropriate cables as well). Keep in mind, Gameplan wont be HD... Well.. actually, it may be.. but if it's not normally, it wont be now simply because you bought the TV
