HC Ryan Day (National Champion)

I was really harsh on Day post Oregon, Nebraska, and then Michigan.

I really HATED the mind-set the team seemed to be playing with….a “4 quarter mentality where they win games late”…..It literally drove me crazy, with all the talent on this team (they’re going to shatter the NFL draft pick record with a MINIMUM of (17) selections in 2025 draft.)

That said….

Dude unlocked the power of this team post the Michigan debacle. I’m not sure I take back the things I said, bc I don’t really think I was wrong….this team played very uninspired and slept-walked through much of the season. They had the ability to finger-blast every opponent they played, but just continually played down to teams. Its not realistic to expect an “A” performance every time out, but something was absolutely off with the mentality of the team.

I think there’s a few factors in that, the largest IMO, was getting Will Howard comfortable and unlocking the offensive identity. After Michigan, and Day alluded to it, they needed to go more uptempo, and trust Will to make good decisions within a faster tempo. Prior to the playoffs, OSU prioritized efficiency in each possession, and they felt the best way to optimize that was through huddles where Will and Seth could communicate QB to Center on each play.

Post Michigan, they ramped up tempo and had defenses on their heels nearly entire playoffs (shout out to Texas who had solid gameplan to take explosives away).

Anyways, I need to give Day his due. He fixed the flaws within this team and put one of the best products in college football history on full display in this playoffs. He got the team playing its best ball when it mattered most. For that, much respect.

Wasn’t a perfect season, but damn I love being called a national champion.

Ryan Day, you can be my coach any time.
He explained this multiple times but he was trying to limit snaps on his players all season. So he was playing into the hands of teams like Nebraska and TSUN. Then when playoffs came it was go time.

Now certain players definately improved beyond measure. Will Howard bring one of them.

Now we can argue if the correct way to limit plays was through limiting snaps of the whole team or just playing the backups more. But the results speak for themselves. We were much healthier the final game then the team we played.

I was down after The Game, but as much as it sucked to lose a game we should have won I still thought to myself who is going to do better at the job? The life of a top-end CFB head coach is complete shit right now. With NIL and the Transfer Portal you have to be constantly recruiting HS players, recruiting Portal players, re-recruiting your own players to stay if they aren't seeing the playing time they want right away. It's the job of a CEO rather than a football coach. The current state of CFB coaching drove a handful of coaches like Saban to call it quits. Kelly would rather be an OC so he can just be a play caller than having to deal with the shit waterfall that a head coach has to deal with. Hopefully changes are made to reduce the amount of constant recruiting CFB coaching staffs have to do because I can't imagine the amount of stress in that job right now.

I'm glad Coach Day pulled this team together and led them to be champions. Hopefully that shuts up the troll fans who harrassed him and his family after The Game. There's no room for that in the fanbase. Soak it in and be happy that we've won the second most titles this century and thanks to the coaches and the expanded playoffs we may never play in another meaningless bowl game.

Really can't say it much better. I've been constantly on the record of saying Day is my guy, but he can't keep losing The Game. I do not take back anything I said regarding that, but the criticism was the farthest thing from personal...it was strictly a matter of fact that you cannot lose 4 in a row to tcun, especially this year.

With that out of the way, there are so many parts of this title run that are going to be a chapter of this season. But genuinely, I cannot describe the joy I felt for Coach Day once the final seconds ticked. Nobody can deny how much he cares about his players and the program. The title trophy is for the players, the coaches and the fans...but as someone that has suffered defeat and fought back to redemption, this entire game made me happy to see Day just be himself. In game management and demeanor.

I said after The Game that if Day didn't win a Natty, then I don't want him back. Only because of The Game results, so deep down I was rooting for him to win the Natty because I want him here. There is no question that he is staying unless he wants to leave on his own accord.

Not going to even comment on that for now, let's give the huge congrats to Day that he deserves for regrouping this team and leading them to the title in the first expanded playoffs. Not an all caps guy but I will be here....FUCK YES RYAN DAY. Way to prove everyone (myself included) wrong. We've got the monkey off the back, let's go back to work after a well deserved enjoyment of a national title.

I hope this is the case. Maybe it took all the pain of those tCun losses to unlock the "real" Ryan Day. If the Ryan Day of the last six weeks is what we get going forward, those losses, while regrettable, will be worth it. He has done everything right since that last brutal loss. He deserves every morsel of praise and adoration he is getting right now. We'll see in about 11 months if it's totally fixed.
I don't know if it gets to be fixed.

It must be extremely difficult in the NIL era to know how much of a taskmaster you can be. I think we've already heard plenty of "you just can't do the shit in practice Meyer did in 2013, etc"

But even with Meyer, the transcendent teams have to find their own motivation, and I guess every group will need to find their own way. With his help of course. But a new Jack Sawyer (and many others) are going to have to emerge.

Sometime, near the end of the Tressel era some kid got in trouble (I don't recall who or for what, but it was a normal young adult fuck up) and the owner of a different buckeye website asked me "won't these kids ever learn" and I was like "no, because they are always new kids"

What Day showed us, and I think it was something we all needed to see was that he could get a group all the way there. And he probably can again.

The cool thing is that he's now won past his 2-3rd season, which isn't always easy. I have a conspiracy theory coaches do better and are more creative with someone else's players. Anyway, welcome to immortality.

There is a lot of "Below The Line" behavior in here. BCD, as Urban used to say.

wE wAnTeD tHiS tEaM aLl YeAr

No s***. We all did. But like Tressel said last night, that TCUN game GALVONIZED this team. We all heard about the players coaches meetings, we all read Jack Sawyers article... Without pain, there is no run that we just witnessed.

E+R=O
P.A.C.E.

Trust the coaches used to be a way of life here. I abandoned that personally when Urban was hiring his best man to coach linebackers. Against my better judgment, after the Michigan game this year, my cognitive dissonance came full circle and I began to trust the coaches once again.

I would highly recommend it to all. We only get so many games to enjoy in our lifetime, there is no reason to be pissed off about each play call and each missed tackle or cutback lane when the Buckeyes are playing. No matter how pissed you are about the Michigan game, you can't change it. So why do it to yourselves? And, the fact is, without it this season.... you don't win the title. Period.

You will get no argument from me on which is more important, there is nothing I want more than to beat those cunts up north... but sometimes you can get both (and beat Michigan AND win the national championship)... and sometimes you can't, you're only going to get one. As someone who did not like Day, did not like NIL, did not like the 12 team expansion and college football getting "ruined", I have to say I was wrong and apologize.

I have not been a fan of Day since his hiring. It was incredibly easy to bang on the drum after the 4th loss to Michigan. It confirmed my bias. Day is a great QB coach but Ohio State is not where you learn to be a head coach. Sure he recruits great, but he'll never get over the hump and string together enough big wins in a row.

Whenever you find yourself swimming in the stream with the majority, it's time to check yourself.

We are blessed to be born Buckeyes. Enjoy the ride - take a deep hit of hopium - and bitch up.

Welcome to the show. Timeline healed.

What is his record now against top-5 teams?

Which poll? Ranked top 5 when? Pre season, when we played them, end of year?

Not directed at you but even when it works in our favor, I hate the "vs ranked opponents" thing. I hate it even more when it's presented as a stand alone fact.

A boat load of assumptions and easy to manipulate to fit the narrative someone wants to support.

The way it’s always done - AP top 5 at the time they played.

I've never seen a standard way it's used.

ESPN will literally use it anyway they can to make a team look better when it suits them. Every ACC team this year beat a top 10 FSU team. Seriously. I've seen it used that way.
