I think the fundamental issue is around identity. No matter how talented you are, you have to have an identity and be that.
Day has built a team that is skill oriented. They pass first and run off of it, a la NFL.
His problems seem to come when he tries to run first because it's usually when it's situationally obvious. He needs to deal with the fact he can't have such an elite passing team and then all of a sudden just line up and ram it down the throat of opponents who are ready for it.
This is where the "soft" label comes from.
I think he is better served to keep firing like it's the first quarter even later in games because he just does not have the machine built to do both to the same level of effectiveness and let's be honest, almost no one can. It would be a perfect offense if it could do both, whenever it wanted to and perfect isn't realistic.
Just understand the price you have to pay and be willing to pay it- you may take a 3 and out in the second half when people think you should be running clock. You know when that noise drops down? When you score again.
Now, ideally he could switch up play calling/audible into the better run/pass play based on what the defense is showing but that seems to be something else that doesn't work because when he goes into manball mode (be it for a half or a full game) -it's obvious, it's persistent and it's highly ineffective.
Just go all June Jones and keep chucking that sum bitch to #4 until they blow the final whistle, it's what you are good at.

Among the questions in my mind that I'd like the coaches to answer openly: What happened to the WR room depth? Getting it Smith is a no-brainer, but where was this year's Carnell Tate in the 4th quarter? What do you plan to do with the offensive line? What happened to getting the kicker prepared to kick in high pressure situations? I'm happy to see the questions begin getting answered next week on the field but the indications before Texas seem like an alternative universe when compared to what we saw. You lost to TCUN repeatedly because you shut it down early and engaged in the game they wanted you to play and made a NC run by letting the dogs out. Where was that Ryan Day coached team?

The single most disappointing thing, post 2024 is why he can't just let it go like he did in that run.
Evidence would start to suggest that the 2024 playoff run was driven by a specific group of pissed off players more than a changed coach.

Smith is not a let it go coordinator. I said it then and now JT Barrett who coaches under Ben Johnson. Declan Doyle Ravens OC was with Bears last year. Making JT coordinator would have been risky but safe gets you beat.
