You have too much talent to go into a “complete tailspin” but I do agree with you that it could lead to a disappointing season by tOSU expectations

Can't ignore that he's getting more and more James Franklin. The last 3 games against ranked teams are showing a very negative trend.

He's a premier collector of talent but as an actual head coach there's a lot left to be desired

You can't go down this path without having a good idea of what you're going to replace him with.

There's literally no one out there that sticks out at this point in time who can be assured of doing better. Change for the sake of change isn't necessary.

And remember, Ped lucked out when they fired Franklin. That job was toxic until Campbell bailed their sorry pedo-loving asses out.

It's definitely a "first world problem" type situation. I fully acknowledge it could get much worse. But I think at some point if this keeps continuing and he keeps falling short with loaded rosters you have to at least consider making a change. Obviously you cant just pull the plug right now that's not logical.

We are years - literal years - away from any of those scenarios however.

People may not like it, but if he continues to go 10-2 or 11-1 each year and gets above .500 against the cheaters up north, he's as secure as he can be. A lack of national titles isn't going to get him fired.

It's definitely not going to be popular. In this era national titles are pretty much all that really matter if you are an elite program. This isn't a couple of decades ago where you were happy with beating scUM and a rose bowl. Anything short of titles is going to be seen as a complete failure

It's this. He always seems like he needs to "learn a lesson" by losing in order to stop doing something that shouldn't require a loss to flip that switch. But he's still better than most people out there.

For the record I expected this team to probably lose a regular season game. The L isn't a problem in itself but how the L came about is a major issue and a lurking issue of Day teams. A complete lack of killer instinct at times and inability to put a big game like this away.

We have seen this in the post season before. They let UGA keep hanging around in that CFP semi instead of stomping the throat and ended up losing as well

I don’t know. I feel like titles will be even harder and more unrealistic to expect.

We’re approaching NFL-lite. There are going to be 12-16 elite teams that will spend and compete with OSU talent. So now you have to:

1) make the playoffs out of your stacked conference (should still be OSU’s expectation every year)
2) rattle off 4 games against other elite teams while dealing with the fact these are still 18-21 year old college kids (much harder expectation)

And that’s if there’s no more expansion which adds more variability (health, bad calls, unlucky bounces)

Day will keep us in the mix- you take that and just deal with the annoying warts. Is what it is.
