Another factor is that the winning team gets 25 days off before the quarterfinal matchups.

OK, so does the losing team (who will also still get a CFP bye), but that time between games allows for some bumps and bruises to not cause guys to miss any games. Once the CFP games start for these 2 teams on New Year’s eve/day, that won’t be the case since there are only 8 to 10 days between games after that,
