HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

or at least until the pass game opens up the run game
Michigan's defense was Jerry from Rick & Morty.....when he crawled home while the Glactic Federation was falling down around him. He just kept crawling and it just kept working. They just kept loading the box and we just kept running right into it.

You don't ever want to be compared to a Jerry.....but even worse, you don't ever want to get beat by a Jerry.

I hate but appreciate the comparison.

If there were still a 4 team playoff, would Ryan Day still be employed?

It's a shame that the most likely outcome I see from our next game (no matter who we face) ends up as a close loss where we have possession to end the game and lose due to either bad clock management, mind bogglingly bad playcalling or possiblybboth.

If that happens there's no way Day keeps his job, right?

Somebody falling down, special teams snafu and bad officiating are also strong possibilities.

Let's be fair. The man's playbook is more sophisticated than just a couple of standard ways to lose.

1. Determine the play that the opponent does best at stopping.
2. Run that play, or variations on it repeatedly on 1st and 2nd down.
3. On 3rd down, determine distance to convert.
4. Once distance is determined, ensure all routes run are 2 yards short of that distance.
5. On fourth down, kick 30 yard punt to see if opponent is paying attention.
I think the prevailing thought is that our WRs are bigger and faster than the defense and the catch will be easier so they will get the extra 2 yards after the catch, except it seems we’re 50/50 or worse converting these. At some point you have to identify IT IS NOT WORKING.

Day and Chip reviewed the Battle of Gettysburg and were super inspired by the maneuvering of Lee and Pickett.

Personally thought it was more like the battle of Midway and we were the Japanese.
That sounds like the three previous sign stealing seasons where Michigan had cracked our codes and knew we were coming. More proof that is easy to beat a superior opponent like the Japanese at the time if you know what play they are about to run. Was the United States the cheaters and the equivalent of SCUM during World War 2? The Japanese probably wished they had an NCAA to complain to.

Every team has a "get back" guy. We need a "knock it off" guy. He runs certain things past the "knock it off" guy.....and that guy can say "hey, dipshit. knock it off with running directly into their LONE strength." Or, "knock it off with the end arounds to the short side of the field."

Just knock it off with the dumb things that obviously aren't going to work. Is King Right 64 Y Shallow Swap gonna work? Fuck if I know....I'm not the X's and O's guy. I'm the "knock it off" guy. 2nd down after a sack? Knock it off with the run that can only gain 4 yards. Everybody knows it's coming.
Could you imagine Jim Tressel standing next to Ryan going “hey Ryan, let’s not do that”…

Ok I had this thought a few days ago and laughed. Remember in Elf where James Caans’ writers recommended hiring another writer? You could see James Caan in real time go from “WTF” to “hey that’s pretty good”.

Well I thought it’d be funny if Ryan hired Jim Tressel for one day a year. The Saturday after Thanksgiving just as the game is starting Jim Tressel runs out last with the team and grabs a headset and for one game a year coaches the buckeyes.
