Washington University in St. Louis-- an Ivy League reputation and an endowment portfolio larger than ND, in excess of a billion dollars.

I keep getting told by someone that Grand Valley State University in MI is the Harvard of the midwest. He is half a foot taller and 100 pounsd heavier than me so I let it go.

I've heard people call Kent State the Berkley of the east, but it has nothing to do with academics.

Maybe once upon a time this was true (i.e. 1970), but from what I have seen, not any more. Sure, it is a bastion of liberalism, but no more than any other state university in the country.
