Hardware crashed out again, and this time it really did a number on the database in the process.
I believe we went down around 4pm, and we're back fully live here at 5:30. Would have been earlier if not for all the database work.
Everything looks clean and steady to me, but please report anything unusual -- database errors in particular.
Unfortunately, there's really no way to tell what's causing these crashes. It may be that there's something wrong with the motherboard on this machine that causes faults/failures with ram sticks in one or more of the slots between 3-8. As some of you recall, we had a nasty run of crashes last year, and removing all but the first two sticks of ram resolved them. If it comes to it, we'll do that again this time around, but I'm not excited about that as it would take us from 16 to 4gb (meaning I wasted a nice chunk of change, and our performance will take a hit). Still, we survived on 2gb ram much of last Summer, so it's not the end of the world.
We are going to have to make hardware changes at some point in the semi-near future. Until then, we're just going to have to weather crashes here and there.
We crashed on 9/16, 9/27, 12/21, and then today (12/30). Hopefully that means we won't have another until March. :)
