Back in the late 90's it was Greek Village on old south campus. Had to say 'yee-ro' or get blessed out and sent to the back of the line. I went to their new location last time I was in Cbus...not worth the drive and didn't live up to the memories.

Apollo's was a few doors down...also good, but not as good...but they delivered.

Extra feta, no onions please.

Apollo's: Better memories than food.

I've never understood why someone didn't a chipotle/five guys fast casual style gyro chain
No kidding-I think the real problem is that
A-gyros just aren't as recognized among the public as burritos, and
B-the best gyros are always at the neighborhood places where they are greasy and the owner makes huge gyros.
They opened a causal gyro type place like you describe in Kettering, and, while decent, it is not as good as the neighborhood joints-smaller serving, for one thing, at the same prices or higher.

In Columbus I always like Gyro Palace on Old Henderson, and my favorite gyro ever is at Skipper's in Oxford. I even had a really good gyro in Tokyo, from a street vendor. It was called a doner-kebab, and served inside a pita pocket, instead of folded, but it was basically a really good gyro-awesome drunk food. The key to a really good gyro is getting the meat roasted really well on the spit-if a place just grills the strips on a grill, it isn't the same.
