Guide: Rules and Ethics

Clarity

1. BP's tracker is intended for media files related to the Ohio State University and its athletic department. Game clips, full games, press conferences, coach shows, recruit highlights, ceremonies, and the like. Please do not use this as a personal P2P service, or to post porn, software, or other data not directly related to the core scope of this site.

2. While we do want to be able to share our own individual libraries of games with one another, we don't want to undermine any legitimate business interests. Do not post any games that have available new-condition alternatives on the market. For example, you can still buy the 2002 national championship game DVD on Amazon.com, and from other vendors. Therefore we should not be posting torrents of that game. In the event that games we do have torrents for are released commercially (in whole), we will remove those files. This project is not about infringing on anyone else's rights, it's just about fans being able to see games they might have missed, or just want to see again. We all have these libraries of game tapes and DVDs, and this is just another means of one fan loaning or giving their recordings to one another.

3. These files are not stored on BP's server, or any other centralized resource (see the "how bittorrent works" link under 'guide: recommended software' for a full explanation. When you download, you're getting the files directly from other users on the site. The more people seeding a file, the more available it will be, and the faster the downloads. Consider leaving your torrent client up after the download is complete so that others can get the file as well. Remember, if someone hadn't seeded, you wouldn't have been able to get it. If you don't seed, someone else may not be able to. While we will not track or enforce ratios on BP, I highly encourage everyone to try and maintain or exceed a 1.0 ratio. Please seed!

4. Please do not publish these torrent files elsewhere. While you're perfectly welcome to link to these threads, this is a service for members of the Planet.

5. Let's try to keep the conversations in the actual torrent/file forums to a minimum. The Media forum (where this post is located) is open for discussion, and is the appropriate place for comments, requests, and discussions related to the files.

6. Contribute! Even if you don't know how to convert your old media to digital format, others around here do. Don't hesitate to post a list of your own library of games, and maybe someone would be willing to do the legwork to get your files online for others to enjoy. The goal is a comprehensive library of games (or links to commercial alternatives) for all to enjoy. In order to accomplish that, we need a wide range of participation.

7. Read the how-to posts before asking questions, in case your answer has already been posted. We're going to try and maintain detailed instructions regarding creating torrents, uploading them to BP, seeding, downloading, playing, burning, and whatever else is necessary. We'll try to offer links to suggested software as well. The instructions are there for a reason, and should be the first stop for anyone trying to make use of the system.
