Guess the first play of the season

1. Beanie off Left Tackle for a 5-6 yard gain.

2. Boeckman short pass over the middle for a 1st down.

3. If Boeckman completes that previous pass, Play Action to Beanie and throwing deep to Robo/Hartline.

First 3 plays scripted.

Am I the only one who got this reference?

I thought the same thing, because I laughed for a solid 20 seconds when I read that but no one had commented on it.

I have a feeling by quarter #4 this Saturday, one of the YSU players will be circling a particular Referee yelling "BLOW THE WHISTLE! BLOW THE WHISTLE!"

Man was that a great play..

One of my favorites was in the Fiesta Bowl against NoD: Troy dropped back, faked a draw on the third step, took his final two.. planted and threw a strike to Holmes right over the saftey who had his back turned trying to make up the space after being faked out by Troy. Beautifully designed, and equally well executed.

This one?

Everyone in The Shoe will be expecting JT to give to ball to Beanie on the first play, which is exactly why I think the do the play-action bomb...
I definitely think you could be right on this one. If it's complete...the 'Shoe will recieve an instant jolt (like it will need one on the first play of the season). If it's incomplete...I still think the place will fill with a buzz, and it might just be a play that sets a tone for the game, which in turn could open up the running game...or at the very least show that we aren't going to be afraid to throw the ball with a new QB. But if it's...well ya know that other thing I don't want to mention...well that could start things of on a sour foot. GRANTED, i'd rather that happen, then go run, run, pass, punt.

Maybe there will be play action, but it won't be a bomb.

My reasoning for a deep pass on the first play is threefold:

  1. If it's complete, well no further explanation needed
  2. If it's incomplete, the defense is now stretched, opening the running game
  3. If it's intercepted, it's no worse than a punt and a fair catch

Not that this is a planning consideration by any means, but it would also get the crowd fired up faster than any other play.

If we don't give the ball to Beanie behind Boone and Rehring, I'd be shocked.

beanie + boone + rehring = money. early and often.

against ysu? nah, i think tress would actually be happier if ysu knew it was coming. after watching the o line get its nutsack handed to it in the nc game, i think he might make them prove themselves all over again. he needs to regain confidence in them and they need to regain their confidence in themselves. if boeckman or show were solid second year starters i might agree with you. but tressel seems to make his qb prove he can make decisions before allowing him to actually make decisions.
