Group to "protest" at soldiers funerals

LoKyBuckeye

I give up. This board is too hard to understand.
What the hell is wrong with these people? I know we say that a lot on this board but these people are out of their fucking minds.

Kansas group to spew hate at local soldiers' funerals

A radical Midwestern hate group plans to protest at the funerals of two local soldiers killed in action, claiming the slain heroes ``were cast into hell to join many more dishonorable Americans.''

The Westboro Baptist Church, proclaiming ``thank God for IEDs'' or roadside bombs, claims the 9/11 attacks and American deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan are God's vengeance on a nation that is tolerant of homosexuality.

``It's going to shock and enrage every person who sees it. That is our goal,'' said Margie Phelps, daughter of WBC leader Fred Phelps. The group is based in Topeka, Kansas, and has made headlines protesting homosexuality at school events, graduations and mainstream churches.

But when told about the group's plans, John Maloney, the father of slain Marine Capt. John Maloney, said his son died in Iraq to protect free speech, no matter how offensive.

``He fought and died for their right to do what they do,'' he said. ``I may not agree with what they do. This is still the United States of America, isn't it?''

In addition to protesting Maloney's funeral, the group also plans to protest the Marblehead funeral of Staff Sgt. Christopher N. Piper, a Green Beret, killed in Afghanistan.

``This kid was an American hero,'' Marblehead veterans service agent David Roberts said. ``I don't understand people like that. Any disrespect shown towards him and his family is beyond my imagination.''

Margie Phelps said her father is a self-declared prophet.

``He hasn't been sent to save. He's been sent to condemn,'' she said, adding that group members have protested the funerals of 11 slain soldiers across the nation in the past two weeks.

Phelps said the protests may be disruptive to family members but ``as long as it's being made into a public ordeal, then all bets are off.''

She added, ``Thank God for the mortar. Thank God for the shell that came from the gun. Thank God for the fact that it killed the fruit of America to punish it for its sins.''

But Maloney, still grieving for his son, said simply, ``I think they're misdirected. I'll pray for them.''

A -- I didn't know God was anti-smoking (though I guess they do call it the evil weed).

B -- Like you said, these people are out of their mind. I can easily see this type of action (it doesn't merit the term protest) getting severely out of hand.

It is worse than disrespectful. It is itself an act of malisciousness that harms no-one other than the families that are in grief over their loss.

I have a deep and abiding mistrust of folk that claim they speak on behalf of God, or with God's voice, and then conduct themselves in a manner that disavows any knowledge of the tenets of christian philosophy, or moral conduct, such as say -- Love Thy Neighbor.

I am strongly anti-gay and would protest under the correct circumstances, but a funeral is neither the time or the place.

[sarcasm]Nothing demonstrates Christian love like sending a grieving family the message that their son is in enternal torment.[/sarcasm]

I swear people have no respect or common sense anymore. What will these protestors accomplish aside from alienating anyone that hears of this protest. A person is dead and they can't save him now...why make it worse?

I am strongly anti-gay

God wants us to hate gays. Given that, isn't it then up to each of us to decide for ourselves who else God wants us to hate and to make that hate known?

Hatred in the name of God is a scared hate that we must all embrace.

Then again, maybe God is love.

So these so-called Christians are going to exploit dead soldiers and their grieving families to push a political agenda? (I will note, however, the author's editorial comment of calling the church a "hate" group - isn't this a news story?)

While I have my beefs with the gay "rights" crowd, what these supposedly religious people are doing is unconscionable. They think God supports tormenting these people, who probably have nothing to do with the homosexuality that (allegedly) is fueling their "protests". I find it far more plausible that there's a special place in hell for people who use His name as an excuse for such abhorrent behavior.

I hope one of the families they decide to "protest" has a group of friends ready and waiting to pummel some of these jackasses senseless for disrupting the family's grieving process. It would be a richly deserved ass kicking...

Someone needs to fuck these people up physically, and fuck them up bad. I would be in jail about 5 seconds after the first one of those assholes made a peep at the funeral. Fucking inbred psychos. Then again, I'd probably be in jail before the funeral even started, because I'd fuck this clown up first for dragging the American Flag on the ground...

Unbelievable!!!

All I have to say is that if their "God" is right, then nearly everyone on the face of the earth is screwed. I just cannot fathom what would go through someone's mind thinking they should protest a funeral.

However, I do like how the article decribes them as a "hate group." I wonder if any of their actions fall under some of the "hate" laws?

I don't know guys,
This article just doesn't past the smell test for me.

Super Duper conservative groups albeit religious ones just don't do this.......

My feeling is ten to one this is a far leftest group of folks.
I've seen it before with my roommate in college. He was crazy liberal and would do anything to make people view religious groups in a bad light.

I always thought he was a dumbass and not accomplishing much but to each his own. I see it now as a larger agenda, though I could just be really really tired.

Apparently he is doing just that, here are a couple of links - that show this is a continuing pattern of this behavior.
one to a site that apparently monitors the activities of this clown.

One to the group being monitored. (i.e. Phelps and the Westboro Baptists).

so if i went to this funeral and killed all these assholes, then claimed that god told me to kill them because he was upset at the gays, would they mind? i mean...thats the same reason 9/11 happened.

As long as you declare yourself a prophet before you pull the trigger.

First of all, where are the people who were looking for examples of people doing depraved acts in the name of Christianity. I didn't even need to respond to that challenge I see, the wackos did it for me... all it took was about a week.

Second... are you serious? Do you really think that extreme leftists would try to further their cause by posing as extreme conservatives? Liberals are a lot of things, but they generally don't possess the cunning and organizational skills necessary to pull that off. Super Duper conservative groups DO do this. Just look at the militias, the KKK, and abortion clinic bombers.
