Greatest Rivalry of All Time?

fanaticbuckeye

Rule number one, I'm number one.
NCAA14 PS3 Champ
http://espn.go.com/

The Game is currently losing to UNC vs Duke and NYY vs Boston.

I personally dont think there is a close comparison between these, maybe I am biased.

Do Buckeyes have a warped sense of the importance of this rivalry? Or is it truely the Greatest Rivalry in Sports?

This is only a poll.ESPiN did another article about the greatest rivalries of all time. 10-Giants vs Dodgers..9.Redskins vs Cowboys..8.Auburn vs Alabama.7.Redsox vs Yankee$...6.Arnold Palmer vs Jack Nicklaus..5.Maple Leafs vs Canadiens..4.Wilt vs Russell..3.North Carolina vs Duke...2.Ali vs Frazier..1.OSU vs Michigan

Not necessarily a trick question, but like I said, I dont think it is even close and with this poll stating otherwise; I decided to ask the question on a Buckeye board to make myself feel better.

Sorry to say I visited ESPiN.com to see - and The Game isn't even listed. It's a choice between 5 different rivalries - Sox/NYY, Dook/UNC, Serena/Sheripova (sp?), Kobe/Shaq (? I think) and another that I can't remember. Anyway, I don't expect there's as many Buckeye fans frequenting the site to vote for The Game anyway.

Well, the ESPiN fan poll found that OSU - Michigan was the greatest rivalry in sports. Period.

Here's a good story that quotes that finding and tells the story of The Game.

ESPiN really do think we're stupid, don't they? Nice try, dumbsh*ts! We don't need ESPiNvalidation! We, and they, know what is the greatest rivalry in sports. Of course, right now, its a rivalry that they are not invited to, but it's still the greatest rivalry in sports.

I feel like I really owe something to ESPiN. You see, before they started this nonsense, I could never really understand what could cause a man Woody's age to push his car for the border instead of getting gasoline in the state up north. Now, I understand, completely.

I hate to say it but with what the Red Sox v Yankees have been doing you can't deny how that can be #1. But the only reason Duke/NC is up there is because it is college basketball season. Once College Basketball is done then it starts going back down below the big two (The Game and Bos/NYY)

1972- Defensive battle. Buckeyes win 14-11.
2002- Defensive battle. Buckeyes win 14-9. Hmmmm.

30th anniversary. History finds a way of repeating itself.

2005 coming up.

1975- Buckeyes score late and win 21-14. Rose bowl bound. #1 ranking.
2005- ???

Looks promising doesn't it!:wink2:

Staying on topic, yes OSU-scUM is the greatest rivalry in sports. No individual rivalry (Palmer-Nicholas, Ali-Frazier) can come close because of their short duration. Yankees-Red Sox is big, but baseball is waning in national interest (college players never go on strike). Duke-UNC is also a good one, but how can the biggest rivalry be in a sport that is still third place in terms of national interest?

OSU-scUM is NEVER played in front of fewer than 100,000 fans. Nearly every season, the outcome of the B10 title rests on what happens in that game. Virtually every other season, one team enters unbeaten with a shot at a national title. Take scUM off of our schedule or take us off of theirs, and either school would own at least a dozen more conference titles, and potentially half a dozen more national titles.

Even if you just take the Bo versus Woody era, what else can compare?

**DRUNK POST WARNING!!**

The Sooox win against the Yankees once in 87 years and it's a "great rivalry"? Sorry, I don't think so. Fuck the Yankees and fuck the Sooox. The only "rivalry" there, is who's got the stupidest accent.

Are we gonna be disappointed 20+ years from now when JT has only managed to lose 3-4 of The Game's and the rivalry's balance has lost some of its luster? While I would like a good game every year, I haev to be honest I don't feel that it will be a bad thing if Tressel's ownership of the rats continues for years to come.
