Greatest Defense in NFL History

Nope. The curtain even got the better of them head to head. But, still.... being a Minnesotan and growing up watching them every week till 1977 (when I moved away) I went with em just cause.
Yeah , not taking anything away from them at all. I watched them play D like it should be. Wasn't tark their qb then too?

I think Joe Kapp was the QB during the reign of the PPE. Tarkenton having scrambled with his life and his health into retirement.

"Just cause" is good enough for me. When the NFL went to a second game on their Sunday broadcasts and we frequently got the Vikings in "Big 10 Territory" (WBNS). They were one of the most entertaining teams on offense and defense. You never knew if you were going to get the lady or the tiger. And those away unis with purple pants and white jerseys were wild.

Still, without a ring they just don't get the attention they perhaps deserve.

Kapp played QB while Fran was a Giant

1961-1966 Minnesota Vikings
1967-1971 New York Giants
1972-1978 Minnesota Vikings.

Who ya got?
1. 1985 Chicago Bears
2. 2000 Baltimore Ratbirds
3. 1976 Pittsburgh Steelers
4. 1978 Stillers
5. 1972 Miami Dolphins

I agree with you except that I'd have to put the 2000 Baltimore and 1976 Steelers teams as 2a and 2b. Very alike in the way they dominated their opponnets.

Ridiculous. The Steelers' defenses of the mid-70's were easily the greatest in NFL history. They had Hall of Famers at roughly 2/3 of the defensive positions. They beat semi-dynastic teams in the AFC playoffs and in the Super Bowl (for the '76 Super Bowl championship team, they beat a fantastic Raiders team in the AFC championship, and a fantastic Cowboys team in the SB). The Bears beat a middling Patriots team in '85. The Ravens beat a mediocre Giants team in 2000. The '85 Bears and '00 Ravens had great defenses, but not to the level of the Steel Curtain.

2/3? Huh? Joe Greene, Mel Blount, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert. 4/11, about 1/3. Bears have Hampton, Singletary so far, maybe one more on the way. They gave up 10 points or less 11/16 regular season games, shut out both NFC teams in the playoffs, including the Giants who would win the SB the next season, and destroyed the Patriots. The Steelers were great, and there is an argument to be made they were the best, but I would hardly call the comparison "ridiculous"
