So Claptons couple of years in the 60's outway the contributions he made in the 70's, 80, and early 90's?
edit ; I will add that I much more appreciate Clapton the blues man over Clapton the rocker.

What about George Clinton & P Funk?

Marvin Gaye?

The Eagles?

You can claim Zep for the 60's but the majority of their stuff is from the 70's.

What became in the 70's 80's and started to rectify a little in the 90's but is no where close is that there is no musical unity. In the 60's there was a great majority of the kids listened to a type of music, in the 70's that started to seperate by ethnicity and gender and that gap continued to widen through the 80's and into the 90's. Now, it is starting to close up agian, although on the other side of the fence.

Stevie Wonder single handily saved the 70s and 80s from being a complete waste of time for music fans. But, he's just one artist and can't compare to the 60s over all for numerous legends.

and as a hippie, your music was about political statements, so where is the respect for

Public Enemy
Ice T
2Pac
Rage
and so many more

Same message different generation....

Has age closed your mind?

I'm just guessing, but I'm thinking the no singing part comes into play.

I picked the 50 because rock and roll was born then(well, mid 40s to mid 50s). As Ryn said, each decade offers something unique and progressive but they all built on the solid base that came about from that era.

Too much of the early 70's was overly elaborate progressive rock, though there was still solid stuff from Zeppelin and others to keep the wolf howling.

This response may be 2 years in the making but... I'll have to disagree with prog being overly elaborate in the 70's. It didn't get that way until the 80's synth movement. Secondly, there's never enough of it!

I voted for the 90s... all of MY favorite music has come from the 90s. Followed closely by the 70's. I'd say '92-'02 would be my favorite decade for music. Spock's Beard, Pain of Salvation, Dream Theater, Shadow Gallery, Symphony X, 3, Rush, Porcupine Tree, The Flower Kings. '02 was a special time for me, musically. I was 19 and both Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (Dream Theater) and Remedy Lane (Pain of Salvation) were released, easily album 1a and 1b on my favorites list. Oh, and this was the return of RUSH! I saw them SIX times on their Vapor Trails tour alone. Six times, the same setlist. Six times meeting awesome fans, having a great time. It was the only time I ever got to see Pain of Salvation, and even though I didn't technically get to see Dream Theater on the 6DoiT tour in '02 their shows for that album were my favorite ever! Also, Spock's Beard released their best album ever that year, Snow. Based on this year alone, I could have voted for this decade. This album cracks my top 10 without a doubt. Other notable albums: The Odyssey (Symphony X), In Absentia (Porcupine Tree), Vapor Trails (Rush). Great year for Progressive Rock fans.

You misunderstand the music of the 60s which is understandable because of your age. 60s music wasn't just political statements. It was a
Renaissance of American music in general. With many styles of music gaining acceptance. Gospel, rock, soul, jazz, rock and roll, folk.
How do you account for the huge popularity of Elvis?
