I'm using the Internet!!!
I appreciate your thoughts. It's always impossible to include every band and to hit everyones tastes. Someone asked earlier, "Who the hell is Sly and the Family Stone?" It just goes to show how tough it is. I came up with my seeds using searches through google. MSN, Rolling Stone mag, and a few others had lists of the top 10, 25, 50 bands ever. I used those lists to compile my own. Although most people would disagree with the choices or seeds, including myself, this list comes from higher sources than myself.cincibuck said:Game 1
Music is such a personal thing, and as your list suggests, a very important part of age group identification. Then there's the whole question of music evolution, so that Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, and the King, people who opened the door for many of the folks listed here, aren't even in the tourney.
My answers reflect my prejudices for and against certain groups, certain styles of music as well as my love for some.
If my comments come off as mean, sorry. I do appreciate the time and thought that went into concocting this survey and I enjoyed thinking about my answers... but if I'm ever alone on an Island and allowed only three CDs they would be Abby Road (The Beatles), Take Five (Dave Brubeck Quartet) and the Cole Porter Song Book (Ella Fitzgerald).
Sincerely,
Old Fart
