Great article on Tressel..a must read for recruits

Excellent read. That has to be some serious riding time if you are checking to see if all of those freshman are in class...

I love this part:

"I ride my bicycle around campus. The kids all laugh at me," said a chuckling Conatser.
"One of them let the air out of my tire one day. I think it was Nadar Abdahllah," Conatser laughed.

In those times where I am frustrated with some facet of the on field performance of the team I think of all the other things Tress does to develop the young men. I wouldn't trade him for any other coach. We have the right guy.

Yeah.. but the only thing he'll say is how Ohio State is illegally ensuring that the football players are passing tests, when they do not offer the same assistance to non-football students.
Illegal is a poor choice of words there bro...

Preferential maybe, but not at all illegal

"Coach Tressel doesn't buy all that," Mansfield said. "He doesn't grant them any special privileges, like skipping class. He really believes the opportunity for academic success goes up drastically when they attend class, so he wants them to be there."
Attendance and doing assigned work is an almost sure fire way to be successful academically. This is true for all students.

Gary Williams did something similar when he was at OSU. I remember OSU had a late Tuesday night game at IU (circa 9:15 pm tip off; remember how Knight bitched about that and how it was unfair to the student-athlete?) and Wednesday morning I was going to the 9:00 am class I taught, and standing in the hall outside my room was Randy Ayers. I asked if I could help him and he asked if I was the instructor in the room next to mine. I said no. He then said that the team didn't get back from IU until 3:00 am, but Coach Williams told the team that he expected everyone to be in their first class of the day. Ayers was checking up on Treg Lee. Since Treg did not start the next game, and saw very limited action in the 1st half, I surmised that he didn't make it to class. It was never reported why Treg didn't start (one of those internal discipline deals was the reason). (Sometime in the off season when it is kinda slow I will share why Alonzo Spellman missed the Liberty Bowl.)

Disagree bro...even ESPN wouldn't be so stupid to use that phrasing...well maybe but not likely

Google news search "Ohio State Football Illegal"

Maybe the phrasing is off... but they'll say Maurice said something that was illegal. :wink2:
