Grandma gets Beat Down

which is fine and everything but to say that anyone with a badge has mental problems is ridiculous. These people risk their lives everyday and some give up their lives for people they don't know.

I'm not the one who sad they had mental problems was I?

Just pointing out what some of his experience may be based off of.

I'm not saying all Cops are bad, but the ones I know personally aren't the most upstanding citizens in the world just like a lot of teachers I know.

My bad, I forgot that post 9/11 you cant say anything negative about law enforcement.

To clarify a little, obviously you cant say ALL, my bad. And by mental disorder, I meant bi-polar, b/c cops seem to go off and lose control at the drop of a hat. Their moods change faster than anything I've seen. I was going to explain that in my previous post, but was in the middle of something (fucking work).

My opinion is from a different point of view. I am not from a big city where being a cop means risking your life on a daily basis with dealers, rapist, murderers, etc. I am from a place where, as I stated earlier, most cops were clowns growing up, and now they always have something to prove. I am from a very small community, we actually don't have a PD, we have a county sheriff.

So if I offended anyone, I didn't intend to, but remember not everyone comes from the same point of view.

For the record, I have a very good friend who is a detective in Muskingum County. We have had discussions like this before, and he agrees about a lot of the department. His dad was actually killed in the line of duty in 1994. Our area has a history of bad cops....a lot of politics and corruption.

Again sorry for lumping ALL cops into one opinion, I wasn't being literal.

Are there bad cops? Sure. But the good ones far outnumber them and are the ones doing the hard work most of us never notice.

That sums it up well, BinM. Unfortunatly, the newsworthy items are usually not about the good cops, unless they're tragic.

I used to work for the police department at OSU, and I had a chance to get to know many of the officers, both at OSU and with CPD. I'd say 90-95% were great people who had truly dedicated their lives to protecting and serving.

Sadly, I can think off-hand of only two newsworthy items regarding the OSUPD. One was one of the bad examples, when one of the captains was fired for running some pornography web site from university computers. The other was a tragic example, when one of the best cops I've ever met, Mike Blankenship, was shot and killed in the Wexner Center incident.

Are there a few wackos who are simply power hungry and who abuse their authority? Yes, but you'll find that in any line of work. Don't let those few lead you into generalizations about all officers. That is simply irresponsible and unfair to the vast majority whose good deeds go unreported every day.
