I don't know how good we will be this year but I think we can exceed expectations. I do know the future looks very bright for the next two years as no one jumps out at me as leaving early. Giddens and Thompson are already an upgrade.

PLAYING 'IN ATTACK MODE,' KAM WILLIAMS SPARKS OHIO STATE OFF THE BENCH IN 82-55 ROUT OF GRAMBLING

Ohio State head coach Thad Matta has spoken at length in the past on the ability of redshirt sophomore guard Kam Williams to score in bunches. Williams showed flashes of that potential throughout an up-and-down season last year, and on Tuesday night against an overmatched Grambling side, he did it yet again.

The explosive 6-foot-2 guard out of Baltimore scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting including a 3-for-5 effort from behind the 3-point line. Williams also grabbed five rebounds and recorded four steals in the Buckeyes’ 82-55 rout of the visiting Tigers.

But while many of the 10,799 in attendance saw the spark from Williams at the offensive end — a performance which included a personal 8-0 run in the second half — the sharpshooting guard said it was actually the defensive end of the floor that got him going.

“I think if I’m always in attack mode, that’ll impact me not only on the offensive end, but on the defensive end,” Williams said. “I feel like when my defense is at a high level, that helps me play better. I feel like if I’m locked in on defense, my offensive game will just fill in for itself.”

Kam Williams' Big Night Leads Buckeyes to Second Win

A lot was expected of Kam Williams in 2014. After a redshirt year to adjust to college basketball, Ohio State counted on the sharpshooter to knock down outside shots throughout the season.

Coming off the bench, Williams scored in double digits in four of the first eight games, but only managed that feat three more times the rest of the year.

As a redshirt sophomore, Williams has to emerge as a player for the Buckeyes and not by improving his three-point shooting.

“Especially with Kam, we had talked about there’s a lot of different ways you can affect a basketball game other than making shots,” head coach Thad Matta said.

Just as Matta predicted, Williams’ defense led to offense for in OSU’s 82-55 win over Grambling on Tuesday night. The shooting guard was active defensively throughout the game resulting in four steals and then he started to knock down shots, finishing with a team-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting.

Williams was listening to his head coach because he not only did he show it with his performance, but stated echoed Matta after the game.

“I think if I’m always in attack mode, that will impact me not only of the offensive end but on the defensive end.” he said. “I feel like when my defense is at a high level, that helps me play better. So I feel like if I’m locked in on defense, my offensive game will just fill in for itself.”

This team has got to cut down on their turnovers and improve their foul shooting. I thought Tate and improved his free-throw shooting from last year and then he clunks 3 in a row. Giddens also needs to work on his free throws. He reminds me of Trey McDonald when he shoots free throws and that is being kind.

I really would like to see K Williams get more minutes but I just do not know who he would replace. I have been disappointed with Lyle so far this season considering the buildup he had as a recruit. I do not know maybe he is trying to force things too much.

I guess we will get a better feel for this team when they play Memphis, Virginia, and UConn. Kentucky will not be a contest unfortunately.

the TOs were and probably will continue to be a problem for a young team with an inexperienced backcourt that doesn't start a true PG, but I think it will improve to some extent. a lot of the TOs last night I think you can chalk up to everyone playing and everyone playing too loose because it was a blow-out against a cupcake.

Lyle didn't have a good scoring game last night but he was 7-2 on the A:TO, not shabby at all, so not sure why this is the moment we're criticizing him as a distributor. last night excluded, he's actually been a bit better than I thought he would be in the early season. we'll see how it goes from here.
