OCBucksFan - Do you have any concerns about having too much of your information with Google? I already use an Android phone and g-mail and its chat feature. Being that Google's profit comes off of selling information about its users, I've been hesitant to use Chrome even though I really like it. What are your thoughts?

I don't really concern myself with it too much, the simple fact is everyone is trying to find a way of making money off of your information. If you are doing something illegal, your ISP will sell you out a lot faster than google will, I have seen people get personal information from ISP's by just pretending to be someone important, google will make damned sure that there's a warrant.

Beyond that, I mean everything you do is logged at some point, your ISP has logs of everything you do online from any port, they require them for legal purposes, your mail is archived for 7 years, and your ISP is charging you. Google does keyword scans but it's not like there's someone reading your mail, they analyze trends and figure out the best way to make money off of them and they return that to the consumer for little to no cost.

It's a little easier for me to not be so paranoid when I have several friends that work for google, so meh. If you are really concerned, use a proxy server would be my recomendation.

Surprised it wasn't posted here yet:

Google Buzz Makes Gmail Social

I don't get it though, google has tried before to get into the social networking thing, with Orkut, and it didn't work, I don't see how making a twitter like application for gmail is going to help them, but who knows, there's probably someone excited about this, hell I found 4 people who are excited about the ipad.

Not sure if that link touches on it, but it is being embedded in the new google maps as well. meh.

Yeah, 4.0 for google maps came out yesterday with the ability to buzz from where I am at. So, it's like they are trying to go after foursquare and twitter all in one.

Personally, I had really hoped that they were going to merge blogger and wave when they said they were going to combine two of their existing technologies into something new and exciting.

^^^seen that yesterday..would be nice to have that speed..

Heh, I have 30 Megs down now and it's way more than I need. I don't know what I would do with a gig down, but I know I wouldn't complain :) It would also be nice for a viable alternative to cable modem out there, DSL is available but it costs more and the speeds are much slower in my area.

I'm surprised no one has brought up Buzz yet. Google's crack at social networking. I've turned it off. Other thoughts?

Google Buzz
