Google Services: Chrome, Voice, Wave, TV, Hangouts

Google launches iTunes Match rival
[Google Music officially launched in November 2011. The service lets users upload and store 20,000 songs for free. Its scan-and-match service launched on Dec. 20.
Google Music scan-and-match is swapping versions, report says
Google Music users have been complaining that the search giant's new scan-and-match service is mixing up different versions of songs, a recent report says.

Google recently launched a free music scan-and-match service. Like Apple's iTunes Match -- which costs $25 a year -- the service scans a user's computer and searches Google's servers for matching songs that can be streamed online without uploading music files.

According to The Verge, users are saying that explicit songs are being replaced with edited "clean" versions; the opposite scenario has been reported, as well. The Verge also points out that Apple's iTunes Match experienced similar issues following its launch.

Some users are expressing concern that Google is censoring their music, while others are worried that "clean" versions of songs are being swapped for the explicit versions. However, it appears that the issue may only affect songs that are scanned and matched, not songs that users upload to their personal libraries on Google Music.

Google Hangouts: Unified Chat, Unlimited Reach
After taking some major steps forward earlier this week with the announcement that Google Talk support would finally be hitting Outlook, the long-anticipated Babel all-in-one chat service has finally been revealed as... Hangouts.
oogle Talk, Hangouts, Voice, Google+ messenger: all of it is finally integrated into one monster of a unified chat service. Taking on the Google Hangouts name does make sense, too, since Google has been notorious recently for trying to shove as many users onto Google+ as they can manage. As far as the service itself goes, you'll finally get a synchronized chat across virtually every single one of your devices, with the ability to go back through chat history, delete messages, and grab files on every single one of them. You can hold group chats with any number of friends, and just like the Hangouts you know and love, you can also move straight into video chat from your Hangout should the need arise.

What's more, the new Hangout incarnation will be hitting multiple platforms, coming to you on Android, Chrome, iOS , and of course, within Gmail's own web client. At long last, we're getting at least some approximation of the Platonic ideal of chat that has been long overdue.

There was lots of cool stuff announced yesterday at I/O. My favorites so far are Hangouts (goodbye google voice!), All Access (think pandora) and Android Studio for developers.

All Access is only $10 a month ($7.99 if you are a early adopter). So far I like it, it doesn't repeat songs like pandora does and I can skip as many songs as I want to.

Google books now supports uploiding your own epubs and pdf files.

My chromecast that I ordered the other day has finally come in. It's a slick little device. I had troubles setting it up with my nexus 7, but was able to get it working with my mac. So far I've had good results with casting a video from my phone and a youtube video. It's easily worth the $35 price tag.
