Just found out the hard way that x-ing out a person from "Suggestions" on G+ will also delete them from your Gmail Contacts. It will also delete them from your phone's contacts if you sync those with Google. I don't know why they'd allow that, it's dumb as hell.

They created "Circles" on the theory that people want to compartmentalize their social groups, yet completely ignored the idea that people may want to compartmentalize them between one form of communication and another.

I sync my phone's contacts with Gmail/Google to have a portable backup and avoid redundancies. I don't sync it so some beta version social network can allow me to unwittingly nuke it all with the click of a mouse.

At least Gmail backs up previous versions of your contacts. I was able to go back 29 days and restore it all.
