How do you explain him reading a transcript that was on Oprah's show for which Stern was fined but Oprah was not?

How is that funny? The outrage from the general public molded the FCC's direction and policy towards federally regulated programming.

Im suprised you are having so much difficulties getting that. Plus, FCC and Stern have wrastled long before the Janet fiasco.

The rules and regulations are differenent for Radio and TV....determined by time of programming or something. Plus Oprah hasnt been stepping over the line just to see if she would get in trouble for it. Cant say the FCC and Stern werent aiming at each other for around 10 yrs...

Im not here to explain the intricate details of the FCC.

If the notoriously bad kid threw a paper ball at the teacher, he'd get suspended.

If the teachers pet did it, he'd get a odd look of shock and a talking to.

Stern is the notoriously bad kid in class. He brought everything he had to deal with on himself.

I really don't miss stern here when he used to be on the blitza in the morning. The Grego show is pretty good and has newer material and jokes and stuff that I haven't heard over and over agian like the stern show.

It really wasn't so simple. Outside of the 7 dirty words the FCC is extremely vague with their "rules". There are no actual rules set in stone, just rules that stations use that they believe will keep them in compliance. That's where Stern always had his problems b/c he was "violating" the FCC "standards" which were very subjective. What was okay for some stations, wasn't okay for others. For example, Spanish speaking stations in LA have played bits far more disgusting and used foul language (both English and Spanish) on a regular basis, but the FCC has given them a pass despite complaints.

There's also the questionable tactics of the FCC. If a station receives a fine they can appeal it in court. However, the FCC is notorious for withholding filings and licenses for stations while they are involved in litigation to clear the matter up (these cases tend to take months and years to decide).

Let's not forget that some lawmakers (on both sides of the aisle) are already attempting to extend FCC control over pay channels on TV and satellite radio. That would include the likes of HBO, Showtime, XM, Pay Per View events and movies (yes, that means porn on demand) and Sirius.

Stern has attracted the attention of the FCC and therefore he's under the microscope... and he's brought it upon himself. The FCC only investigates when it receives a complaint.... our Station President came back after a few drinks last month and put himself on one of our shows called "Happy Hour" (go figure). He let 7 f-bombs out and we didn't even get a call from the FCC (we have no delay).

First I loved Stern as he was a pioneer in the radio industry. It is sad that he is leaving but his time has come. His show has become watered down and tired since you can only go for so long and keep being fresh. The great thing about the move to Sirius is that he will not only do his show but produce new shows in addition to his own. It will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Now I don't know about all 2 million but it is safe to say at least a million people bought Sirius due to Howard Stern and maybe picked Sirius over XM because that is where Stern is.

About the FCC, the reason Howard gets nailed is because people listen to him specifically to try to get him fined. No one listens to Oprah trying to turn her in. But it is also about Politics, when the Democrats were in power they did not care about TV/Radio and concentrated on other issues. But with Republicans in power they have to listen to their nutjob religious wing and they want Howard gone. So the FCC became an extension of religious beliefs and the crackdown of Radio/TV began.

It was funny how many people went apeshit when Janet Jacksons breast flashed on national TV. Of course, the same politicians and people dont care when Viagra comes out with next another commerical, when beer companies advertise on TV, etc. We all know that exposure to female nudity at an early age can lead to damaging results. :roll1:
