Good times in the Superdome

Now that it's confirmed that the Buckeyes are going to New Orleans to play for the title,

I want to get some retrospective from Buckeye fans who remember the last time the Scarlet and Gray played in the Superdome- A&M in the '99 Sugar Bowl.

Anyone remember that?

I vaguely remember 99...i think I lived in Athens or Columbus that year...beyond that I'm gonna go with "I was drunk". I seem to remember tOSU playing A&M, but I'm gonna have to take your word for it that it was in '99.

I went to the 99 Sugar bowl. The first few drives, it looked like we were going to blow them out of the stadium. Then we seemed to sleep walk the rest of the game.

It seemed like some guy that's name started with "Sir" was in on every single play for A&M. Sir Parker, perhaps???

New Orleans seemed kind of dangerous at the time and I'm sure it's 10 times worse now. A&M fans were very cool. No problems at all with them. Good thing too because they clearly were the majority.

Nice trip, all in all.

Sooner fan here.

Based upon our 2003 games I suspect your fans will have a miserable time in New Orleans if you play LSU. (Of course, winning will help).

The stadium will be about 85% LSU fans, and every where you go there will be incredibly drunk, rude and obnoxious LSU fans.

They really need to do something to equalize ticket sales under such circumstances for the NCG so it is not a home game for LSU

Saint season ticket holders get first shot at them

Sir Parker was a running back.

You're thinking of Dat Nguyen. Guy was a stud college linebacker and I believe he played a few years for the Cowboys.

Some misconceptions about NOLA

First off, I don't know exactly what happened to the majority of Sooner fans that gave them such a bad impression of NOLA and LSU fans, but I want to set the record straight.

Are there some jerks and over the top fans? Absolutely. Are all fans like that? No. Just a heads up, you will hear "Tiger Bait" early and often. Suggestion: just laugh it off or send a joke back at whoever said it. Louisiana and LSU fans are pretty sarcastic, but one thing that is ingrained in our culture is "ribbing" people. We give it because not only can we take it, we expect it. It's a football game; it's supposed to be fun. I guarantee you if you laugh off the Tiger Bait and shake their hands, they'll buy/give you a beer and food.

Secondly, eat whatever they give you, regardless of its color or name. It's all good and I guarantee you'll never find better food than in New Orleans or at a tailgate around the Dome.

The Dome is actually extremely nice nowadays since they fixed it up after Katrina.

Finally, NOLA may be a dangerous city, but you won't be going around any of the dangerous parts. Downtown is happening and always filled with people and cops, for those who are worried. Bourbon Street is extremely safe and generally has a cop or two on every corner. NOLA is unlike any place you've probably been to. Make sure you get a po-boy. Go to the D-Day museum and/or walk through the French Quarter. Get beignets at Cafe du Monde. I guarantee you'll have a good time. Just a heads-up, LSU is probably staying at the Hilton Riverside and OSU will probably be at the Marriot.

Actually Saints' fans don't get any shot at the tickets. I wish we did.

Secondly, sorry about your experience in 2003 but all of the OU fans I ran into downtown and in the Quarter said they were having a blast. You get fans like that everywhere. You should hear some of the stories from Saints' fans about their trip to Chicago last Jan.

Anyway, y'all will have a good time and find that the majority of spirited LSU fans will add to it.

Its funny but the biggest thing I remember from that game happened on the very first play. The opening kick, A&M was called for some penalty because of their uniforms not being consistent. I think a player had different level socks or something awful like that. I cant remember exactly but it was a ridiculous way to start the game! Outside of that I remember OSU playing pretty well and Dat Nguyen playing like a monster.

I can't speak to 1999 against A&M, but I was down there the year before when we fell to FSU.

What I remember most was that New Orleans was an amazing town with a great culture.

As for the game, it is the only time I have personally witnessed a game in a dome--and I hated it. It never felt like I was actually at a game. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but football just wasn't meant to be played inside.
